My dad & I have been really disgusted with this off-season.

It's been pretty damn bad outside bringing Hammer back.

Solid article though man.

I've read a lot of bitching and moaning about the offseason (not just from one person -so I am not trying to single anyone out).

But just for the hell of it .... ok, so what exactly do *you* do differently if you are the GM?

Good article, I agreed with most of it. Some people don't realize that Stan Bowman cannot raise the salary cap and just keep and resign every player he wants to, or they do realize the facts but still decide to ***** and moan about it anyway.

I look at it this way, we still have to most talented core in the NHL locked up for a good amount of time. On top of that most teams coming off a Stanley Cup victory normally don't have a great prospect system, we have one of the strongest because of the trades we were forced to make. On top of all that our team is still young and even players like Kane and Toews are not at prime potential yet.

In the end our team will make the playoffs next season and we are talented enough to contend for another Stanley Cup.

To everyone bitching about our off season (JoeHawks) please inform us of what you would have done differently as far as getting us under the cap rather than complain about the job Stan Bowman has done thus far.

I look at it this way... how many people actually thought the Hawks were going to make last year THE year? And I am not asking the die hard or even the bandwagon fans... more the impartial fan or at least the realistic NHL followers. The Hawks true #1 goal was to win a cup... but they had many others before that.

#2... Conference champs
#3... Establish division dominance

Just a few to think of. Even post-finals interviews many spoke of how they knew that they had a great opportunity and wanted to make the most of it... but also then always went on to mention how they didn't think this would've happened so quickly and so soon.

This speaks enormously to what lies ahead. That core hasn't reached their prime age yet. For anyone to look down on the offseason so far is questionable to me. So we lost players, this is the salary cap era... it happens. I think we are now better prepared for defending a title right now.

The future is bright... and read into any other team site out there. Regardless of the Hawks departures, teams still acknowledge the greatness that will still be wearing the Hawk sweater come opening day.

The bolded part is the most important part. People who casually follow the Hawks or know nothing about them just think Bowman doesnt like these guys and is just trading away players for the hell of it. This isnt the NBA, there are no Bird rights. This is the salary cap era, DEAL WITH IT!

Stop bitching and answer the question... seriously what would you have done differently?

Also Bowman should be credited with resigning Toews, Kane, and Keith when he did. Think what Keith is worth with a Norris Trophy in his possession, certainly more than 5 million a season. Also Toews would command 8+ million a season now (like Crosby and Malkin) after what he did in the Olympics and Stanley Cup Playoffs. We could have been in an even worse situation.

Don't expect Joe to answer you, he's as dumb as a bucket of rocks. He couldn't answer your question even if he was a real Hawks fan.

It's true though, joehawks sits back and says our offseason has sucked, but he is a coward when asked what he would do differently

He's always been like that. He says some stupid shit, someone calls him out for it, he never responds back.
