A) Mid way or so through the 2nd is not "late in the game" - protecting a lead with about 5 minutes left in regulation is, or within a minute of the end of the 1st or 2nd is...
B) That one looked like Kane forced a pass to a guy that was covered by a world class winger (and future HoFer in Selanne) -who then picked it off- getting it to a linemate who made a great little give and go pass - and he was in alone. Selanne has made a career of burying those.
Plus it looked like part of a set breakout play to me; and Kane having all of that ice real estate ahead of him should have known a little better, not sure Keith was out of position unless one is playing rod hockey.
It's a fast game - sh*t happens.
Edit: Well why not since this has me going ---
Shootout practice being worthless--- in order to do it right you have to be aware of the tendencies of the opposing goalies (ie --Not Your Own)... so, unless you spend a lot of time analysing how an opposing goalie deals with penalty shots (and assuming that sort of material is out there) -you won't actually have that much material that's much use, available to you -- then you also have to practice for both goalies on the other team in order to be ready...
and then it only really makes sense for 4 or 5 guys -maybe 6 to be involved - which pretty much all takes away from the practice time for the rest of the team. Not to mention that while taking that time away from everyone else - it sends the message that failure to win is a possibility (well sure statistically) - but you want your guys in a certain mindset where winning in regulation is the only thing that matters.... there is no reason to mess with team morale.
-and I do realise this is so much wheel spinning on my part- and I think I will get back to not bothering any longer.
