I've been a pretty big Braxton stan over the last few years, but to me the reason the Bears would/should consider OT @10 isnt for 2025, its for 2026 and beyond. You're probably not going to find a rookie OT better than Braxton as a 4th year vet, thats not an apples to apples comparison though. What worries me about Jones is if he gets marginally better this next year, but misses 4-6 games. He's going to get $20-$25M AAV in FA if he does that, Bears would have to commit big money to a decent but not great OT that would at that point have durability concerns. To me, this is the draw of someone like Kelvin Banks (after a small tradedown would be even better) - he's insurance for if any one of Jackson/Thuney/Jones dont go according to plan.

I dont think thats what Poles *will* do, it would be effectively saying 2 of his guys (Jones and Kiran) arent good enough to invest in the future with - but I think its a reasonable line to take to protect the franchise on what is likely to be the biggest contract extension on the horizon until Calebs given how much decent young OTs make in FA.

Based on Poles' language that there would be competition for the OT position I am not sure they are going to draft an OT at 10 unless someone they love falls to that spot.

They will draft someone to compete and possibly be the swing tackle.

Jones will cost a significant amount of money next year. It would be nice to draft a starter at an expensive position.

Poles is not giving up on his project Kiran Amegadjie after his redshirt year in 2024............... Even if CCS is.

I'm also down with Banks at #10 but if everyone does workout, including Kiren, then we'd have to look to trade Braxton or Banks cause i'm not going to just have our 2025 #10 pick just sitting on the bench waiting to find a place on the OL. Hopefully that trade would be Jones which would obviously work better for us when thinking about the cap.

Depends on if he remains healthy in 2025, and how much if any he improves his overall game.
Hopefully the injury thing isn't something we'll have to worry about with him since he just gave us 3 full years with no serious injuries and i don't think any injuries at all.

It wouldnt be ideal to have a logjam of players that hit on the OL but its a much better problem to have than the opposite imo. I think Bears go RB or DL at 10 though, I think this is really just arguing the hypothetical.

Leave it to CCS to give up on a kid we don't know shyt about just because he didn't play well in a game after missing all of TC and Preseason in his rookie year. I still have pretty high hopes for the kid whether that's at T or G.

There is no way they can rely on that guy as the swing tackle.....no efing way
Right now, no they can't, but this is a new regime coming in who will have a better idea of what they have with him after they get these guys in for training camp and get to see him in the preseason.

I just posted this in another thread.

Take Kelvin Banks Jr. Let him battle it out with Jones. If it’s close, starts Banks and make Jones the swing. I’d push Kiran inside either way.

It covers the Bears if Jones is slow to recover from his injury and if they don’t think he’s good enough to give an extension.

Also, I believe it gives Kiran a better chance to develop.

I’m not giving up on him. But there’s no way I want to rely on him either. Also Greg Gabriel thinks it’s a good idea which usually means the opposite
He was a project when he was drafted. He still is. I don't mind him as a 4th tackle, but they need someone serviceable to come in and play swing.

This is the 2nd time in as many days that you've mentioned craig on here, is there something going on with you two that we need to know about? :deer:

I listen to his podcast 🤷‍♂️

I think he’s frequently wrong on stuff but given his history in the league he has some good stories
