He was a project when he was drafted. He still is. I don't mind him as a 4th tackle, but they need someone serviceable to come in and play swing.
Joe Thuney??

I was just messin with ya.
He used to DM one of my Twitter accounts a few years ago. But then I told him something to the effect of he doesn’t work in the NFL anymore so what does he know. He wrote back and told me to fuk off and he still does work in the NFL. Then he blocked me. 😂

I’m not giving up on him. But there’s no way I want to rely on him either. Also Greg Gabriel thinks it’s a good idea which usually means the opposite
This is what I was thinking. It's a case of both things being true. He hasn't had the right opportunity to prove what he is one way or another yet. However, we also can't rely on him being a regular contributor for that reason.

Wonder what kind of contract B.Jones will be looking to get after next year?
That's part of the rub. They may not, simply due to drafting OMG last year but the top 2 LTs in this draft are much better prospects than Jones or OMG. If Braxton could develop an anchor, he'd be worth resigning to the big bucks but if this team doesn't project that, they should seriously consider one of those top 2 LTs if one is still there at 10.

Those looking to replace Braxton Jones with the #10 pick. May want to rethink that.
Two years in a row on injured reserve, mediocre performance in pass protection, potentially huge contract extension pending after this season...

If the opportunity to replace him presents itself it would be wise to take it now. I expect a new LT drafted in the first four picks and Kiran to be given given every opportunity to replace Jones this offseason.

Poles job potentially being on the line factors in.

There is a chance he wants a player who contributes to him keeping his job this season. While taking a tackle it 10 is a smart long term decision it has potential to help nothing next year.

I was only talking about at #10. I think they will definitely take another OL later in the draft (OT or OG). However as the article stated. None of these prospects are guaranteed to be better than BJ.

The article revolves around a third-party opinion stat called "blown block rate" and they claim Braxton was #9 last year but how accurate is this ranking when he was also injured for 5 games last season and 6 games the season before...

He isnt reliable and these opinions labeled as "stats" don't really prove much of anything except what we already know... Braxton is better than an average 5th round pick, and Braxton is average at best overall.

Everyone knows the draft is a crapshoot so an article warning us that many draft picks don't pan out any better than Braxton is not enlightening.

The Bears should absolutely take Membou or KBJ in the 1st round if they trust either to be starter caliber players, even if its just to avoid paying an average player, Top-10 player money.

Poles job will only be on the line if the team has another collapse like last year. He isn't likely on the hot seat at all.

Do any of the top prospects have the prototypical arm length of an NFL OT?

So the Bears should not draft premium OLs because they have Braxton Jones at LT?

I'm not very high on Jones, because I have not seen him able to handle good pass-rushers 1:1 and I have not seen the Bears offense function with him at LT. Can you be a winning team with Jones as your LT? Possibly, but we haven't seen it yet. Can you win the Super Bowl with Jones as your LT? No possible way unless he takes big strides this season.

I'd like to give Braxton a chance with an improved IOL. We could draft Banks at #10 or in a trade back and then have depth at Tackle or even kick Banks inside (possibly) as OL depth or future. That would probably be a less satisfying pick at #10 than Jeanty, Mykel, or Warren but it's probably a sensible pick. We can get TE/RB later. Judkins in the 2nd/3rd. Obviously Warren is special and will go super early.

Leave it to CCS to give up on a kid we don't know shyt about just because he didn't play well in a game after missing all of TC and Preseason in his rookie year. I still have pretty high hopes for the kid whether that's at T or G.
No one's giving up on him. We haven't seen enough. I think many of us want someone else to be Braxton's back-up this year though.

lol this is a silly argument as one can also say that BJ is not guaranteed to be better than any of the first round OT's taken in the draft either

Without an obvious upgrade. The Bears won’t be waisting the #10 pick on any of these OTs. Sorry

I’m willing to put money on it. The Bears will go BPA and it won’t be an Olinemen.
