I think you could all but eliminate O-line as the potential pick at #10. Poles isn't exactly known for valuing redundancy there but he is known for being a big Braxton Jones stan. On top of that, he spent a 3rd on Amegadjie to coach up and let Borom go because of that. Behind the interior guys you have Bates and Murray at the moment. So adding a versatile guy there makes tons of sense but not at #10, not that high.

I'm getting more of a feeling that Poles is targeting Jeanty at #10 but a big edge defender would be a better pick, IMO. Jones is the starting LT unless he gets hurt in training camp or something, and why not give him that chance with an all-pro now lining up next to him?
I think it comes down to this, if there's a can't miss LT at 10, bears are taking him. I don't think there's a can't miss LT at 10.

With the money spent this offseason on the 3 o line starters and having a top 10 pick from 2 years ago as a 4th starter you would have to think Jones is the weak link of the 5. He does not look worthy of big money to me when his contract is up, I would have zero issues taking a left tackle at 10 if deemed worthy or the pick. My guess is they will go d line.

There’s no such thing as a can’t miss. But I get your point.

Just saw this on a mock draft, but what if Simmons falls the the 39th pick? Should the Bears take a flyer on him? Seems like now we are in a much better position to be doing so with all the other OL upgrades.

Bill Murray is far from nothing and I'm not offended you suggested such things.

Nonetheless, you can find developmental offensive lineman beyond the #10 overall pick. I'm all for adding to the position, just not there.
BM has 42 career snaps.

Do you think all team fans think that their fringe Practice Squad backups are "far from nothing", or is it just Bears fans?

you keep saying this over and over, but that is actually why it DOES make sense to draft a LT this draft. let him sit and learn his rookie year then to avoid him sucking his rookie year(playing your assumption that he will struggle)

by avoiding drafting one this draft, you are forcing the bears into paying jones 20+ mil per year, rolling with Kiran, or having a rookie LT drafted and playing immediately

your own logic points to needing to draft a LT if you are not comfortable with the 3 options mentioned above

Hey if big johnson likes redshirting the #10 overall pick then sure

lol you keep harping on this notion that he wouldnt play at all his rookie year as well

the odds of the bears starting 5 O line playing all 17 games together is slim to none

If they do go OL in the first I would suspect it is because they want a super sub as Campbell, Banks and Membou could all play G/T. So worse case they are a super sub this year and can figure out their permanent spot next year. Best case they win the LT job this year.

If the Bears want a pure T prospect then don't think they go T in the first. I think Bears grab a developmental T later in draft as no one in the first really fits what Poles usually looks for. Jones has 35 3/8 arms and Kiran's are 36 1/8. So he definitely seems to prefer long arms at LT. Even Wright's arms are 33 3/4. I would be thinking Emery Jones Jr 34 1/4 and Jalen Travis 34 7/8. Would not surprise me if Kiran ends up the starter when it is all said and done.

People keep mentioning that they think Jones will miraculously get better having a better guard playing next to him. Yet, he had the best olineman on the team playing there with Jenkins and most believe Jenkins is a very good player when healthy.

As Knoxville7 mentioned, there will be injuries and whomever would be drafted would get PT. Who knows if Jones will be ready to go on day 1 and also might he actually regress after his injury?

I honestly think the Bears should trade down a bit just to get another pick or 2. And honestly, with the first pick after trading down, go DE, and then just draft who they think are solid players with some potential. Spend this draft on solid players that have good potential and can also be really good backups. We need depth. We know year 1 will be hard to adjust, just like Ben Johnson said. Why not focus on getting solid players this year with worst case scenario, them being solid backups, if the potential doesn’t translate to starting material. I’m also going this route due to the talent in the draft this year. Not as great as other years in my opinion.

Then next year, draft players that you think have explosiveness and that you think can be a difference maker with proper coaching.

At the end, who the **** knows what direction to go. Haha
