Where some see a pick-your-poison playoff opponent for the Bulls, Tyrus Thomas sees three teams that should fear the Bulls in an opening-round series.

The Bulls clinched a playoff berth Friday night when the Charlotte Bobcats were eliminated with a loss at Oklahoma City.

''I think we're the most dangerous team that's going to be in the postseason in the Eastern Conference right now,'' Thomas said. ''We're the underdog right now. But I think we're going to shock a lot of people.''

Is it confidence based on the Bulls having the fourth-best post-All-Star break record (16-10), behind those top three teams in the conference? Or is it simply cockiness from a young player on a team which will try to climb to .500 tonight when it hosts the Bobcats?

''I think it's good,'' coach Vinny Del Negro said when asked those questions. ''You have to keep it all in perspective. I'd rather have a guy with a lot of confidence moving forward.''

Ben Gordon gave Thomas support for his postseason assessment.

''Yeah, I agree with him,'' Gordon said. ''Why not? I'm on the same page with Tyrus. It seems like we're getting better each game. We just hope every game could be a home game, but that's not the case.''

If the Bulls were to fall to the eighth and final playoff berth, they would open at Cleveland next weekend. The Cavaliers have lost one home game this season.

''We've proven we can beat the Cavaliers,'' Thomas said after practice Friday.

The Bulls did defeat the Cavs 102-93 in overtime at the United Center on Jan.15. They also lost the first three games against the Cavs by an average of 19.3 points.

''It's going to be a tough road for us, regardless,'' Thomas said. ''We dug ourselves a hole at the beginning of the season. Regardless of who we play, we're going to have to take care of our home and try to get a few in theirs. We've got to win the rest of our games in order to have momentum going into the playoffs.''

I really like Thomas' attitude going into the playoffs. Hopefully he can break out in a first round playoff series.

Lets just hope we don't meet the Cavs in the first round, because bet your money that if we do, Thomas's quote will be up on their board before the series, and they'll use it as motivation to crush us.

We are getting better yes, but I think one of the biggest reason is not because of Tyrus's or Noah's play, but more so Miller's and Salmons play because they finally brought consistent play at 2 position where we lack consistent play from - the center position and the small forward spot.

I wish we just buckled down and just continue to play hard, and quit with the chatter. It's great that we're building confidence, but we're in no real position to make out-landish comments, not just yet anyway.

Anyhow, I'm excited for the play-offs. Lets go Bulls!!

Yeah I love his confidence too. Thats what we need. I would rather face the Cavs rather than Boston but I would rather face Orlando than either Boston or the Cavs... So what do we do? Play it safe and fall to the 8th spot and play the Cavs or fight for that 6th, maybe 5th considering we are only 1gm behind the 6ers and 2gms behind the Heat!!!

Lets go for that 6th!! Altanta get ready for the 1st round baby... D-Rose time..

The 6th seed will face Orlando, not Atlanta.

What's more disappointing is seeing the Heat two games above us, if only we didn't blow those two games verse them...

I never worry about bulletin board text. I don't think the players really care either. This is playoff basketball, no one needs a quote to get up for a game.

If you need bulletin board material to get you up for a playoff game then you probably shouldn't be in the playoffs. Anyone who's played a one and done tourney should know extra incentive isn't needed.

I don't know. When people talked it always gave MJ some extra motivation.

I don't think Tyrus should have said that. "We've proven we could beat Cleveland." Not really. Yeah, one game at home in OT when James shot poorly. I wouldn't put much stock in that.

Yeah, the confidence is good, but I think he should of kept quite on that.

I see nothing wrong with it. The reporters are asking him a question and he is confident. It all depends on what was said. If he said LBJ is overrated baby that sucks on his moms **** then that would be the wrong thing to say.

How many fighters before a fight say that they will win? Do you think that makes the opp wanna win that much more?

A athlete should never feel they can't win or say it in public. I would be pissed if Tyrus said well I'm glad we're in and we'll lose in 4 but oh well

It's not about saying you're gonna lose. Saying that we've "proven" we can beat Cleveland.

They haven't proven anything. Maybe if he said "I like our chances." Using the word proven, to me, shows a little cockiness, not confidence.

What Tyrus said was fine. I'm just glad he didn't say something stupid like he's occasionally done before. "Free money" and so on...

He didn't say that they proved they can beat them in a series just that they can beat them which they did.

Cleveland is 3-1 vs us this year which means we beat them.

I think it's great he said that. May it be the Cavs, Magic or Boston, whoever they face, they have to show that they aren't afraid. I don't believe it's going to create issues with the other team. They don't view the Bulls as a threat and for good reason. But I'd take every advantage I can if I were in their place, even if it's only a slight moral boost. What's wrong in believing that you can beat anybody? It's the playoffs, the season means nothing anymore.

I am happy that Tyrus is shoting this type of confidence. Do I really think he needs to go out into the media and say that? Probobly not. He could of said it in a way where it would of seemed much less like he was trying to challange the Cavs, such as "I feel we can play with any team in this leauge". Thank god, we won't have to put Tyrus's words to the test. Cause if we had we would of gotten pounded!

I'm aware the Bulls beat them, in OT at home when LeBron shot 8 of 28.

To say you "proven" you can beat them is wrong. the word proven makes it seem like you have consistently played them well and beat them more than 1 time. That's not the case.

I suppose the Bobcats proven the could beat the Lakers, but I don't know if a member of the Bobcats would come out and say that - if they somehow magically played the Lakers in a series

Let's look at the other 3 games.

106-97
107-93
117-92

Not close really.

It's not about not being confident, it about choosing your words correctly, which Tyrus doesn't know how to do.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  2. Golden State Warriors
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
Hey at least he didn't say that we're going to get destroyed. From a morale standpoint that wouldn't sit very well with the team. I think it's good to see that at least the team has some confidence. He probably could have rephrased the statement so that it wasn't so directed at the Cavs, but what is done is done.

And based purely on technicality, he is right in saying that we have proven we can beat the Cavs...at home when LBJ has an off night in OT. I agree with Mark. Thank goodness we don't have to put Tyrus's words to the test.

It's all good. Tyrus needs to translate that energy onto the court, and the Bulls will be fine.

Hopefully he can prove his words are confidence rather than false bravado.

Yeah, we have blown so many games with dumb mistakes or bad calls or giving up big leads. We could have easily solidified the 5th seed but we have a rookie pg. Next year I expect him to handle the ball more and take over games when we need.

Talking definately matters and can motivate a guy like Lebron James. But I don't have a problem with Tyrus saying this in his situation because one: the Bulls haven't proven they can beat the Cavs at all so it doesn't matter if they say nothing, the Cavs will still beat them easily. Two: Sometimes you have to fire up your own team and maybe that will work, and it is nice to see a Bull that is being vocal. The rest are always so quiet and say the right things all the time. Lets go Thomas get some action brewing I like it.
