Ok this is odd.

When I was saying Toews was sitting out a year because he wanted no part of a rebuild with a fake medical condition, this forum was up in arms calling me a conspiracy theorist at best and personal insults at worst.

Now Toews is the baby for taking veiled shots a management with this rebuild?

Guys, I’ve been saying this the entire time- Toews is a competitor. He wasn’t saying Jack shit when Blowman was trading away draft picks like candy for Seth Jones or getting a high end goalie. I’ll go as far as saying IF those trades and signings wernt made last year Toews probably sits out a second year. He looked at the dressing room and thought that was enough to challenge for a playoff spot.

It wasn’t, but that should kind of be admired that he has that much faith in his team mates. Too bad the coaches and their 90’s dump and chase system with zero defensive responsibility got in the way of winning.

Now he knows the team is hot garbage and wants out. You can’t blame him for being up front about it.

And people really need to stop this drivel that Toews is a third line center, he’s not. He’s a low end first liner or elite second line center on his defensive game alone. Toews was the second best player in the league for years after Crosby not because he put pucks in the net but because he stopped top lines from doing it. Towards the end of last year once he got his legs back so did the relentless puck possession. He shifts possession and if he has one other person who is on his level on his line like Hossa that’s extremely valuable to a contender.

If Toews is on the oilers and the oilers are up one with one minute to go in a game seven with a faceoff in their own end, they’re not putting McDavid out there to take that faceoff, they’re putting Toews.

Toews is so under rated its criminal. Stop listening to fans of other teams crying how Toews is bad when the truth is he made their teams his ***** in his prime.

I guess there isn't a difference between criticizing him for public comments he makes and accusing him of faking an illness for an entire year. Lol. I honestly can't believe that anyone would even attempt to draw a parallel between the two.

I agree with Bob that Toews shouldn't want to be a part of a long rebuild but Toews has to take in account that he hasn't been a $10 million dollar player since 2018. He's been a great Blackhawk but at this point his demands will justifiably be falling on deaf ears. He really should be grateful to be getting what he's still getting for what he's providing on the ice. Great leader, great intangibles and he will always be a favorite of mine......but at some point, you have to accept the fact that no one wins against Father Time.

Unfortunately, I think it's time to move on for him.
It's the fans who should be grateful IMO,JT owes the team nothing. Will you or anyone else for that matter notice what we got and what we'll get for two more 5M years from Tyler Johnson? 5M for an injured 4th liner keeps no one up at night. 3.5M for Brent Connolly to sit in Rockford for two years........who cares? I don't get it.....CC was an overpaid bum @6M....MAF was a fan fav @7. Seabs @6.8M and Keith@5.5M were stealing money.......deHAAN-job @4.4M and Matta @4m were A-okay?
What the team got from Toews for 34M his first eight years more than offsets what they paid him on the last deal IMO.
What "demands" has he made? And the deaf ears belong to a who?..........a group of inexperienced, clueless millennials who had nothing to do with the 'Golden era'. Guess an OLD **** like me just doesn't get today's 'throw away' society and it looks like 'romper room' wants no trace of past success........they even ran the announcers out of town.

I think it is time to move on,for me and JT as well.

So your theory is he would fake an injury for a year rather than just ask to be traded…..doesn’t make sense at all to me

It wasn't just two; those were the two main ones, but he's made similar short comments in post-game interviews too. This isn't new, so let's stop pretending otherwise.

No one said he should never do interviews , but again, I'd wish he stop bitching about the direction of the team publicly already. That isn't how a captain and a guy who is supposed to be a mentor next year acts. He's already made his feeling on the subject known. How many times is too much, Bob? Are you cool if he just keeps shitting on the idea of a rebuild in future interviews? How would you feel as a young guy next year playing behind a captain like that?

You can be honest and still project at least a modicum of desire to be here next season in a captain/mentor role. There was none of that. It was all complaining, being "really drained" and "exhausted." If that isn't bitching, I don't really know what is. If you want to claim that I'm flying off the handle for simply calling it for what it is, I guess that's your prerogative, but I'd call it being a realist and stating a fact.
I read every single Hawk article every single day and then post and discuss them on two different Hawk message boards and I just haven't noticed this constant barrage of complaining. Feel free to post links to all of these post game interviews....maybe I missed em.....I miss few!
How many times is too much you ask? I still only count the two interviews but feel free to enlighten me with all the other "bitching" you've heard from him.

Podcast: Toews on rebuild and an interview with Max Domi

I agree with Roumeliotis,he's in NO way "shitting" on anything,he just said a 5 year plus rebuild isn't appealing to him @34 and he also said you can't blame the team for rebuilding.

I doubt he's here next year to ruin all the future 'phenoms'....LOL but if I was a young guy,I'd feel privileged to play with him.

What contender has the cap to take that contract a year ago when more then half the league was at the cap?

Let’s just time line things-

Blowman says rebuild, Toews sits out a year with some made up illness.

Blowman makes questionable moves brining in Seth.

Toews says nothing

KD goes ahead and starts a scorched earth rebuild.

Toews wants out.

How is this shit not intertwined?

Toews obviously had pull with Blowman, he doesn’t have that with KD.

Okay, well you obviously don't watch the live post-game interviews because you would've heard them. That's what happens when you're an out-of-towner.

He's shitting on the direction of the team. Just once, it would have been nice if he said he doesn't know what the future holds, but he is looking forward to mentoring the young guys. That's all he'd need to say. To me, it was all doom-and-gloom and feeling drained.

You can do whatever you want.

Just a few questions.....did you attend a Hawk playoff game in 1961, you ever play 3 games on Chicago Stadium ice when in college, were you at the Stadium on 3/12/1966, do you remember seeing Bobby Hull play wearing #16 or #7, did you ever watch a playoff game at a movie theater on closed circuit TV or have a Bobby Hull jersey decades before it was the "thing" to do?

You can spare me the "OLD ****" blues......

I can't believe you're still trying to swing this silly narrative, even after, you know, the dude did eventually return and finished an entire season on a shit team.

He's coming off two bad seasons sandwiched around a year he took off yet they will pay him another $10 million to play another season. Ok, I get it's a contract they have to honor but still....it's his choice. He can wave the NTC and I'm sure they'd be happy to move him and probably be willing to eat a good size portion of his contract in doing so. I get he's not pleased, but he's smart guy.....he had to have known this was coming.

I was 4 when they won in '61',attended my first home game @7 back in '64',didn't play much organized hockey.........congrats for playing college!
I do remember the old #'s Hull wore and I did watch closed circuit, PO games at the 'Ritz ' in Berwyn. I watched the game 7 at my uncle's bar on Blue Island back in '71'.......I'm still scared.

I didn't say I was the only Old ****.

We were in the Pickwick in Park Ridge. Picture quality sucked but they had Jim West doing play by play and I actually do remember it being pretty good. Theater was packed and erupted when the Hawks scored. BTW, congrats on surviving a night in a Blue Island bar.

the way the game I saw ended

"Out of towner"? I was born 2 miles from the old barn and I've never lived anywhere but Illinois........I don't live in the city anymore if that's what you're referring too but I miss nothing about the team.

Every single post-game interview is there for the watching, these are the two pertaining to the subject. Yes,he does seem as dejected as I feel but it's hardly a constant barrage of bitching and complaining....JMO. I tried to find the interviews that showed him at his most disappointed,if I missed him saying anything worse.....let me know.
The worst thing he said in either article was "he didn't find a 5+ year rebuild appealing",I don't know how many 34yros would..........if you consider this "shitting on the direction of the team".....so be it.

My uncle and his brother had a big restaurant and lounge called 'Danny and Gigi's roundup' in the old Wozniak's casino building on Blue Island Ave back in the day with a closed-circuit antenna and the snowy 'South Bend' picture to match........quite a few cops usually at the bar too!

It sounds like you've seen as many or more 'eras' come to an end as I have, this one's tough but I'll come to grips with it at some point.

Bob, this isn't rocket science man. He's literally complained about about every major move that Davidson has made thus far (Hagel, Debrincat, Dach), has spoken out against a rebuild, has made absolutely zero mention about being a mentor during the rebuild, etc.

I thought you were living in Florida currently for some reason. I watch all the post-game interviews live after every game I watch, which is about 90% of them. If you expect me to remember and/or find every little snippet of every post-game where he's expressed this sentiment (direction of the team), that's both ludicrous but more importantly, unnecessary, because you know it's true and it's subjective anyways.

For example, Toews even complained when Bowman of all people was let go. Now, I consider that a part of his past grievances (i.e. the beginning of), but you probably don't. Point being, within the past 2 years at least, the guy has made it clear he doesn't like the direction of this organization and doesn't like the idea of a rebuild at all.

He's been bitching about the idea of a rebuild for at least the last 2 years now:

And just like with Debrincat, Dach, and Hagel, he complained when players like Crawford and Saad were jettisoned too:

Come on man, you know this. I've cut him slack this entire time -- like you -- but at this point, enough is enough for me. This team is rebuilding. It needs to rebuild. I know it sucks for him to lose his friends and not be on a winning team, but he's had at least 2 years to process that. This is what happens during a rebuild; instead of complaining about every move that Davidson/the organization makes, I'd just once like to hear him express at least some interest in being a mentor instead.

I can't disagree very much with any of this post and I'm a long time Toews guy. It really doesn't matter how much he complains....a little or a lot. If he isn't interested in being here and doing what he needs to do, then he needs to waive the NTC and let Davidson try to move him. Nothing Toews can say or do will change anything.....this is the path the franchise has chosen.

The guy's been on an emotional roller coaster the last three years and he's only human.
Three summers ago found him, along with Kane, coming off a career year with his GM on a massive 20M plus spending spree, giving up picks and a 20yro NHL level D-man along the way.
Two years go found that same misguided GM publishing a 'rebuild letter'......BUT.....
Last summer, the same GM who published the 'rebuild letter' only nine months earlier, acquires a 7M vet GT and absolutely sells the farm to trade for a vet D-man who's then signed to a massive deal.
This summer is rebuild again it seems and it looks like they mean it this time.......a guy could get whiplash.

I guess it comes down to whether a guy agrees with what he's said in interview or not........personally,the things that disgust him, disgust me just as much. The frustration of the above mentioned yo-yo-ing coupled with a year long illness has to be a lot to bare.

It sounds like he'll be gone soon regardless and the '2017 Liquor executive of the year' and SB's former assistant will lead us back to the promised land in no time.......last time took 49 years.

Something tells me we're on the right path though ....LOL.....

We can all agree JT has been a cornerstone for this franchise since his debut, he has laid everything he has down on the ice, I have been a huge Toews fan since the beginning, watching him play for the Juniors I couldn’t wait for him to lace them up for the Hawks, however, what everyone forgets so quickly is this should not be about Toews, and he is making himself the vocal point of the Chicago Blackhawks right now. The Hawks were the Hawks before Toews and will be the Hawks when he eventually leaves. There is no player bigger than the team, and at this point, the captain of the team is proving he is no longer the leader of this team. I honor him and applaud everything he has given this team and the fans, but I will be quit candid and say, It time for Toews to shut up, stop whining and move forward. Help the team do not help the team, the rebuild is happening and will be for the next 5 years at a minimum. Take a quick look around Shane Doan in Arizona, Jumbo Joe in SanJose, never took shots at there team, and those 2 teams were in worst situation than the Hawks and still are. I am with Granada, how about a little positivity on mentoring and leading this team out of the doldrums instead of criticizing what has already been done. Play your year out, get traded or retire, JT you are not bigger than the Chicago Blackhawks.
