Agreed. And its definitely not an excuse to pay less than minimum wage.

Legally, even waiters/waitresses are guaranteed the regular minimum wage. Whether through tips or the employer making up the difference.

I believe on average, most of them make a lot more than minimum wage. If we took away tipping and allowed employers to pay the minimum wage, they'd actually make less. They'd also have to pay taxes on all of it.

Normal Restaurants......average service = 15% good to great service is 18 to 20%.....chick with big tits 25%

Self serve places nothing unless the aforementioned *******....then a buck or two.....


My favorite is when the fast food drive thru asks if I want my change or asks if I want to pay for the guy in the car behind me......I have only tipped a couple places like that....Starbucks when they recognize me and already know what I want......a British chick who works at Jack in the Box who is extremely nice and Chic Fil A where the service has never been anything but stellar.

Never. And I live in this industry. Now, if my little boys were with me and left a gigantic mess on the floor, then yes, I'd leave 2-3 max. Cleaning up a floor takes time and sucks.

For the drop and go, usually not. For the refill at least a $1 per drink.
For sitdown, I'm with Monster, 10% for bad service (everyone is entitled to a bad day/moment). It goes up quite a bit from there.
For delivery, 15-20%. Most don't know that the delivery charge does not go to the driver.
I even tip appliance delivery guys.

If you are ordering an espresso drink rather than just coffee...you really should tip for the barista. I have done that gig and those drinks are not easy to prepare.
