Cool, this is a well deserved nomination.

Too bad there wasn't a trophy for having the most heart in the leaugue.

Toews would certainly win that one.

I am sure Toews will win some regular season awards during his career, he's already bagged the prestigious post-season awards and he might want to get himself some extra paperweights.

sure would like him to win this.

it will most likely go to Kessler, that's the only thing that team might win.

He may have only scored one goal this series, but you sure as hell cant argue with the timing.

Honestly, I can't see Kesler getting it, playing 2nd fiddle for Vancouver. 40 goals don't matter.

Datsyuk was injured a good portion of the year.

Toews by far was the most effective and used in more important situations through out the entire year, relied on heavily in key situations. Had Datsyuk played a full season I'd say he would probably take it, but in this case I think Toews wins it.

If Kesler wins it, someone should be shot. I'd pick Bolland before him.

Doubt he wins it even though he should... two years in a row two award nominations.

I have to agree, Toews should be the winner.

Datsyuk is in many important situations for defensive reasons just like Toews, and I do think his time missed should make him the 2nd at best choice. But something tells me it is going to be Kessler.

Statisically:

Toews:

32G (15th) 44A (25th) 76 pts (12th)

56.7% f/o

115 SHFW (15th), 87 SHFOL (56.9%)

25 +/- (16th all skaters, 9th fwds)

93 TW (2nd)

28 BKS

Datsyuk

23G (T61) 36A (T55th) 59 Pts (T51)

54.6% f/o

37 SHFW, 31 SHFOL

11 +/- (82nd all skaters, T49th fwds)

71 TW (10th)

20 BKS

Kessler

41G (5th) 32A (T79) 74 pts (15th)

57.4% f/0

125 SHFW (8th), 116 SHFOL (51.9%)

24 +/- (T20th all skaters, 12th fwds)

65 TW (T14th)

80 BkS (4th Fwds)

With this breakdown, it is logical for Toews to win it.

But, who is voting for this?

This is Kessler's second nomination I do believe. I would like to see Toews win this as I believe he deserves it. I fear it might go to Kessler, especially if Mike Gillis says so.

And that is the thing, what is truly the criteria (do they go deeper into defensive zone stats, situation states, PK minutes, etc). And who votes. I do agree that if offense is included then he has that as a top forward, and defensively the only thing really lacking is BkS, but does that weight more than takeaways? Be interesting to see where this goes

The writers will be so enamored by the Canucks good regular season and it will go to Kesler with his 41 goals, even if I think Toews is more deserving.

Why would goals scored have any bearing on this? That's like giving a Gold Glove to the position's leading home run hitter.
