First guess was Boston's GM.. and I was right.

I... I don't even have words.. for this
How ridiculous is that d-corps? Love on the forwards all you want, but I can’t think of a single one of those guys that you wouldn’t take on your team at that price

Okay, maybe fine and makes sense if you look at all the Dmen the Hawks have been playing, Oduya's been playing worth it this year... but he listed MONTADOR! Da'frak is wrong with that human

Well ya, based upon us being good he's going to get put up there... probably didn't survey many Chicago fans' opinions in making this piece.

It's a blog from the score, though, so I'll take it with a grain of salt. The only real credit I can give Bowman at this point is he didn't blow up the team this past off-season.. a lot of fans wanted something major done after two first round exits in a row.

I'd give more acclaim to Detroit's, Boston's, LA's, St. Louis's, and Montreal's GMs.

Everything's going to come up roses when your team is on an unprecedented roll to start the season.

You can call it luck if you'd like ... but he's certainly making good use out of the hand he was dealt following the Cup.

He also didn't make any stupid big money signings in the off-season just to do it. That has lead to the Hawks being in decent shape cap-wise moving forward.

Paul Holmgren and Garth Snow as honorable mentions are poor choices here. While both may have made some nice moves...they have both also made some questionable, if not just flat out bad moves. The good doesn't outweigh the bad by that much. Holmgren blew up a Stanley Cup Finals team over the course of two years and they just aren't the same team. Trading Richards, Carter, JVR and signing Bryz are pretty big moves that really haven't worked out. Snow...I mean he has made a lot of poor deals and his drafts haven't been great (Nino Niederreiter asking for a trade already?). The manipulating the floor comment...I actually think that is a negative. They are paying about $7mil a year to players who aren't playing just so they can get to the floor. That $7mil a year (really only $5mil because of Thomas' contract) would be a whole lot better spent on a player (or trade asset for a rebuilding team) that is actually on the ice and contributing. Also, the team has been rebuilding for almost 7 years under him...and they are still rebuilding.

No idea how they could leave David Poile off this list. The GM of the year award came into existence in 2010 and Poile has been a finalist in 2010...2011...and 2012. He continually puts out a playoff team and even a contender with one of the lower salary caps in the league. I mean, his hands are probably tied on most things he wants to do but he makes the most out of the guys he can sign under his internal cap. No Poile on this list at all is a major oversight.

Yeah, he's a big reason they're 19-0-3...fucking please.

He's the same idiot who keeps ignoring the #2 center position.

Do we need to go through this again? I would love to if you need me to explain it again, maybe more slowly this time around. I thought the next time you brought up my 'job' you were going to get a nice vacation from this site right? Think you could live without being a 'blackhawks' fan for a week and not contributing? Wait...you are a Blackhawks fan...right?

Thought of someone else that should have atleast made the honorable mention list... Lou Lamoriello. Very consistent, losing Parise hurt and the Illya draft pick situation sucked...but he does a nice job of filling the gaps and identifying the weakness on his team. They are never the flashiest or most exciting to watch, but he knows what he is dealing with and Lou gets the job done.

Good point about Nashville,hawkswriter... I can only think he left them off because Nashville isn't flashy? Or maybe because they lost Suter? But he should be on there, although him being a finalist 3 times could be argued that it was largely due to Rinne...

Edit:whoops, I was quoting hawkswriter, sorry about that!

A lot of the earlier picks, sure. The "core" players are still all Tallon acquisitions. But the depth players that are showing up in big ways this season are, for the most part, acquisitions of the Bowman era.

Bowman was trying to make some moves this offseason ... they were rumored to be going after Brodeur, Parise, and Luongo in the last offseason.

Better to be lucky than good, eh?

In terms of Bowman being on the list, I don't think it is quite deserved yet.

However, the trades that he has done (where he wasn't handcuffed with the cap purge) have all been pretty successful. The drafting has been the best, and while that definitely isn't all him (big tip of the hat to scouting and others) it goes down in the books as the GMs moves.

The 2011 draft is where it is at for Bowman. Shaw and Saad are currently NHL regulars. After that there is Danault (my favorite prospect), McNeill, and Clendening who look like they have real bright futures.

With the salary cap, getting contributions from players on ELC is important and a big reason why the Blackhawks won their most recent cup.
