Let's revisit that post-Cup purge, eh?

Versteeg shipped to Toronto for Stalberg (Not too shabby of a pick-up), Chris Didomenico (meh) and Philippe Paradis (meh).

Andrew Ladd traded to Atlanta/Winnipeg for Ivan Vishnevsky (No idea what happened to him) and a 2nd round pick, which became Adam Clendening. I hear he's doing well in Rockford this year, future offensive D-man for the Hawks.

Byfuglien, Sopel, Eager, and Aliu sent to Atlanta/Winnipeg for Marty Reasoner (quickly shipped out), Joey Crabb (who?) Jeremy Morin (still waiting on him to crack the pros but having a rebound season in Rockford), a 1st-round pick that became Kevin Hayes (still playing in college) and a 2nd round pick that became Justin Holl (no clue).

Not immediately after the Cup season, but still part of the salary cap purge, I'd say.

Troy Brouwer shipped out for a first-round pick which became Philip Danault. Lotta good things being said about him.

Campbell sent to Florida for Olesz. Probably not a good deal in terms of talent, but it was a huge help cap-wise.

So out of all that mess, you got Stalberg who's producing for the big club right now, and a pair of prospects in Danault and Clendening that could certainly be big parts of the future. Jeremy Morin and Kevin Hayes may be two names that get discussed before it's all said and done.

This trade is one that is starting to look better post-lockout this year. How many teams want a $7.2mil dman on their team now? Would be one hell of a challenge to trade Campbell now.

Player to player...you are absolutely right, it was a rip off. The cap help is huge. Blackhawks will probably amnesty Olesz after this year...and Campbell really would not be an amnesty possibility. I don't think any team would want to buy out that contract, pay him not to play, and pay him for the remainder of his contract...that would be alot of cash. Don't get me wrong, I really love Campbell's game and I think we all saw how important he was to the Blackhawks when he was traded...but $7.2mil is a lot with a salary cap of $64mil (instead of $70mil this year).

Could anyone here imagine the purge that would have to happen AGAIN after this year if Campbell and his $7.2mil were on the cap?

Haha no kidding. I think this is the first year that Campbell's skillset hasn't been missed by the Hawks, due largely to the stellar play of Hjalmarsson and Oduya on the second D pairing and Leddy's leaps in his third year in the league.

Only area I can think of is pp entries.

I still miss the sight of Campbell either skating the puck right into the zone or chipping it into a corner and retrieving it himself. Made it look effortless.

Haven't seen Leddy perfect the chip-and-chase method but he's getting better and better at navigating the neutral zone and using his speed to gain zone entry all by himself.
