You do realize that with a drop demolition the debris still needs to be cleaned up and removed don't you? How long would you say it takes to clean up a 40 story high rise's debris after drop demolished? Not to mention the prep time for implosion. And have you forgotten that a large part of the "crew" in this demo are robots?

The tallest building ever demolished by implosion was just 30 stories. It took 6 months to prepare for implosion and almost 4 more to clean it up.

I have to say as a complete ignoramus that from that s****y camera phone picture it looks highly likely that dropping that building would cause lots of problems with the surrounding areas and may actually be literally entirely unpossible.

Unpossible, and illegal, as it is with almost all high rises in a densely developed area. New York goes to lengths to re-purpose skyscrapers that have outlived their original usage and need, because taking these things down is a big deal. It's true, you did say they must have had to do it this way. But I mostly disagree with your first reply. Faced with having to find a method to take a high rise down in a safe and unobtrusive way to the public, I think this method is pretty ingenious. I'm sure you could probably punch that building down with your hands for much less money, but I'd wager it would likely take you more than a year.
