Great movie. OG is better. Quite a few twists that I didn’t see coming.

Cant believe they did iceman like that. I wanted him on the mission

**** all this hype!! The movie was alright but not great. Better wait till it streams then spend $18 on a ticket and $20 on food. Best part is when Cruise appears in a "Thank you for coming" video right before it starts and he look 30 year older than he does in the film. Movie was make for woke twenty-somethings. Action was ok. It would have been SO MUCH better if they showed off modern technology in fighters instead of going with old-as-shit planes, but then again, if they did that, they'd be showing cruise in a pod remote flying a drone. Oh well, Reality is a *****.

Expand upon the “woke” 20 something being the target audience. I’d love to hear this

I haven't seen it but I believe one of the main characters doesn't even have a dick!
Besides, the original was about sweaty dudes playing volleyball and wearing towels in the locker room.
You know, really manly stuff.
Rawr!

Imagine telling people this movie isn't worth seeing in theaters...

Adore the original and thought this one was incredible. This is the first legacy action movie that didn't completely blow chunks. In an age with so many shitty cash grabs, this was made with heart. This movie felt like what The Force Awakens was for Star Wars, which imo isn't a bad thing.

Spoilers: I knew this was going to great as soon as the opening credits rolled and they went with old school font. The Top Gun theme, which was good but also felt a little academy awards-ish, like its something that will totally be played when Tom Cruise either presents or wins an award this year. Loved them bringing back Danger Zone, though i was also hoping for a little Mighty Wings instrumental at some point. Wish they could have had my guy James Tolkan(Stinger) in a tiny role.

That would be my only gripe - I wish they had more of the actors from the previous movie. OFC Stinger needed a role. TOP GUN?!

I had to read up on Jenny (which she is mentioned in the first, so that's a cool connection). But why wasn't Goose's wife in it or at least talked about? or Charlie? Viper? Jester? Hollywood? Sundown? Slider?

With how successful it's doing, you know there will be more, with Rooster being the new Maverick.

If I'm being honest, I'm a little afraid to rewatch the first one again. I LOVED it as a kid in the mid 80s, but I'm worried it won't hold up and come off as super cheesy. I haven't seen it in at least 2 decades. But I kinda feel like a rewatch is necessary before watching the new one.

have you seen the OG Karate Kid? Watched it with my kiddos a few weeks ago and my gosh that movie is garbage. The Cobra Kai series is so much better. Seriously, the movie was basically a B movie and I have no idea how it had so much success.

I haven't in forever. I've kinda got a long standing policy on nostalgic movies like this. Very few of them hold up, and even the ones that do, still aren't as good as I remember them being with few exceptions.

My wife likes to watch all sorts of dumb Korean drama shit on Netflix. I like to get high af and make fun of it MST style. The other night I made myself laff so hard at my own jokes I almost pissed myself. She hates me so much.

Sounds like I'm due for some Top Gun.

I've got a ton of them. I think I'm gonna dig up either The Goonies or Weird Science.
