Hey Chicago how about a fn retractable roof.....huge market with poor stadium.

Seriously, people need to get a grip
tornado 1.jpg

This happened an hour before the game and was the cell that was headed to Chicago. Weather Channel is saying f3 but they always seem to downgrade IL, this kind of damage in OK would be f4 (this is not a low quality neighborhood with cheap houses).

A retractable roof does not a storm shelter make.

Now it's officially an F4 and given that this isn't OK, KS or TX you can bet it was bad every bit of an f4.
9 tornadoes dropped out of this cell around me (missed all my family but I've met the guy who died and know some who's houses are flattened).

A retractable roof isn't stopping that. Just more crap to fall on people. Postponing the game was the right call with or without a roof.

When I heard one touched down west of me I started watching (no basement to go to) to the west because that's where it looked the worst. This happened to the south and east within 5 minutes. It's not something you want to wait until you see the ball get sucked into the sky before emptying the stands.

This is where I live. Washington mailing address, East Peoria voting (everyone wants their cut of taxes).

I'm sure I've met the guy who died. It missed my friend's house by 40' there, it's where I hunted when I was healthier. I think my dentist lives (or lived) in the flattened neighborhood, but I can't call their office to see if everyone's OK. I also found out a new ecig store's owner lost their house.

From what I understand the cops aren't allowing people in to help here. Quinn and our mayor were on the radio saying they don't want help (they want it to look as bad as possible so they can get more FEMA money).
I'll probably have to transfer my prescriptions to a different town and if the government drags their feet long enough I'll have to find a new vet. Like the tornado didn't do enough damage the government is going to put businesses out of business.

Tornadoes are weird like that.
When one hit a factory near here not a piece of my friend's truck was undamaged. Except the gas cap door, that was in pristine condition.

The flattened area is about a mile away and it was hardly windy at my house until about an hour after it hit. My brother about a half mile closer said had debris flying when he looked outside.

Looking at pictures and what I've heard and comparing that to Google Earth, the path was a little east of the sewer plant in Sunnyland, through the golf course (I've heard the small development to the west of the golf course had some damage) and then angling up and across Devonshire all the way out of town.
The picture with the water tower in it is looking southward over Devonshire to the golf course.

If they're west of main and north of the main drag through town I'd say it's a good bet they have damage. But the only death I've heard of so far was in the country.

Unless they've got out of town it's doubtful they have a way to connect to the outside world. I got power back at about 8:30 last night and was amazed at that, I figured it would be a week at least.
Land line phones are really spotty. I can't get a ring to anywhere but Dominoes.
I've heard weeks to get power back in parts of Washington.

I've heard there's a Red Cross wagon with cell phone chargers and internet in Washington but I don't know how they're getting that message out. I heard it on the internet but if I had anyone in need of help they'd already be getting those needs filled.
Whether cell phones are connecting, I've heard they're spotty too.

And so it begins.
I can accept not being allowed into town to go to businesses this soon after. I doubt if that many businesses are open.

But now they're telling residents with intact houses they can leave and get back in, but when they try to get back in they're refused.
If you're the governor or news crews of course you're allowed in. A gas truck to bring in gas for generators, no, not you, then they wouldn't be able to force residents to leave.

This state is screwed up.
We're not going to have any businesses left by the time they're done. Tornado destroys about 1/4 of the town, the state of IL destroys the rest.

That sucks. They're allowing the locals to do more in Gifford. Small town? Quinn is doing his best to get votes out of this. Good luck to you, nvan and all involved.

What?
Tell me I can leave to get gas for my generator and come back and then don't let me back in with picture ID so my pipes freeze and my dogs starve is to stop looters???

Without going conspiracy theory and thinking it's to cause more houses to be condemned so the state gets a bigger FEMA check I think it's a big city minded politician trying to rule things the way they don't need to be ruled here.
The Chief sounded much different on the TV than the state boy I heard last night wanting to shut the town down for a long time. The Chief sounded like he was going to back the blockade off to the effected area as soon as the utility dangers are cleared up.

Both of my sisters families and my daughters families are OK...Got a hold of them last night...

One of my sisters neighborhood was flattened...Her house was spared, but only by luck. A hundred feet away not so lucky..

Really scary stuff...I grew up at Westlake as a youth.

Myk, it sounds like you live in Sunnyland?

Yep, East Peoria end. My brother is at the far Beverly Manor side of Sunnyland.

I figured out how you guessed Sunnyland, I don't know when you were here but Highview also fits the description of two towns claiming them for taxes now.

From a video I saw and knowing where the guy who died lived I'm amazed Westlake or Cherry Tree didn't get hit.

nvanprooyen, I'm not sure if this will work but I saw this link on FB with the area hit drawn over a map, http://prntscr.com/24xkuq
