Glad to see it carries over to next season regardless of this season.

Anyone know financially what 25 games does to him?

I am neither pleased or displeased with this announcement. I feel that there could be even a bigger suspension or even a ban but I am also happy it wasn't something like 10 games.

And it begs another question..............

Since the league agreed that this was a horrible hit, what is the accountability to the refs who never called anything on the ice AND allowed play to continue while he is motionless on the ice???

Bout fucking time Shanahan finally dropped the god damn hammer on someone. Next maybe it will be 50 games and then a season and out of the the league. So Torres will be in Europe by next playoffs

And still keep the play going with the trainer on the ice.

I think the only longer suspension in league history was against Chris Simon for cross check to face. was it 30 games?

Torres salary is $1.7 mil. So does he lose 25/82 of that? i.e. a little less than a third?

I also hope this is a message to guys like Wisniewski and Carcillo. That shit doesn't belong in the game.

So the NHL agrees that the refs messed up, suspend Torres 25 games, but still give Q a 10k fine even though they confirmed his statement?

No call = 25 games = Obvious **** up by the refs.

What was the fine for? He told the truth, obviously they agreed... so what's the beef?

As Shanaban mentions on the video the length has more to do with Torres being a repeat offender than the hit on Hossa, which also had 3 offenses (charge, hit to the head and interference). If he hasn't learnt the previous 5 times he's been suspended/fined then he probably needs something sterner to get it. It is not a new standard.

25 games? That was easy. A goon vs. a star player.

Still, in my eyes it was more of a hockey play, albeit dirty, than slamming your opponent's head into the boards or feeding an opponent your stick and punching him when he's down.

And.... neither of the referees felt that it deserved any penalty when it happened?

Let's hope that this is not an isolated instance of issuing a well deserved penalty, but the start of issuing discipline that fits the crime.

Thought the same.

Couple of things to keep in mind. Stephen Walkom was a Sr. NHL Official who gave that up several years ago to be the "Head of NHL Officiating". He was SO bad at that, the NHL in it's infamous wisdom put him BACK in the line as a SR. NHL OFFICIAL. In doing this he stepped AHEAD of all other Officials on the ice. To give you an idea of some annomosity. He was then back in the playoffs and even did some of the Finals in the last two years.

Walkom and Ian Walsh, the two "on Ice" officials during Game #3, were infact one of the NHL's SR. Pairs. Hossa aside that was probably the WORST Officiating game I have ever witnessed. That included 1000 live NHL games and well over 5000 all together. Disgraceful, as there were numerous HORRIBLE no calls not made. Walkom skated around turning his eye all night.

This was what I brought after the Seabrook ruling. A clear ball "dropped" by the NHL at the time. As per usual.

If the NHL truly wants to remove hits like this from the game, these are the type of suspensions that need to be the NORM for repeat offenders.

At least Shanahan made a statement.

Hopefully the Blackhawks will make one tonight in Phoenix.

The NHL does not want it's membership to bring embarrassment to the league. The like to do that themselves.

Won't cost Torres nothing if the Coyotes go to the finals and every series go to 7 games; players salaries are for the regular season only.

This is why the suspension should have been for the rest of the playoffs and at least 15 games for next season.

What ever amount of games that carries over into next will cost him $21,341, we need the Hawks to knock them out so 21 games carry over. Right now the most it will cost him is $448,170 and whatever bonus dollars from the league for playoff money.
