The right kind of suspension but yet still incorporating severity or existence of injury into the punishment.

Example: James Neal suspended one game for two separate incidents in the same game.

Dumb, dumb, dumb. Using all the wrong reasons.

Won't cost Torres nothing if the Coyotes go to the finals and every series go to 7 games; players salaries are for the regular season only.

This is why the suspension should have been for the rest of the playoffs and at least 15 games for next season.

What ever amount of games that carries over into next will cost him $21,341, we need the Hawks to knock them out so 21 games carry over. Right now the most it will cost him is $448,170 and whatever bonus dollars from the league for playoff money.

You sure about that? I'm pretty positive players recieve some type of bonus during the playoffs depending on how far they go. His bonus might be forfeited by being suspended. Could cost him more that way actually if so.

Unless there is a bonus incentive in the contract, which I doubt applies to Torres, I don't think they get paid. Might be a question worth asking Kane Sr next time you get a chance.

Yes I mentioned playoff bonus money which I would guess will be forfeited but that would not compare to the dollars he could lose from his regular season pay.

These numbers were from 2009:

All players get paid in the playoffs - but it's not a lot.

All teams losing in the first round receive $50,000 to be split among the players - this here is why the Hawks need to make a comeback and knock PHX out so Torres pockets can really be hurt.

All teams losing in the 2nd round receive $100,000 to be split among the players

Both teams losing in the 3rd round receive $200,000 to be split among the players

The loser of the Stanley Cup Final receives $500,000 to be split among the players if PHX were to lose in the finals and every series went to 7 games, Torres out of pocket will be estimated at $21,739 (23 man roster) which would equate to 1 regular season games for him.

The winner of the Stanley Cup receives $1,000,000 to be split among the players. - If PHX were to win the whole thing and every series went to 7 games, Torres out pocket will be estimated at $43,478 (23 man roster) which would equate to 2 regular season games for him.

Thats what I thought , rest of the playoffs and suspension starts next year.

Players association probably infuenced Shanadick to do it that way so player does'nt lose as much money

So the NHL agrees that the refs messed up, suspend Torres 25 games, but still give Q a 10k fine even though they confirmed his statement?

No call = 25 games = Obvious **** up by the refs.

What was the fine for? He told the truth, obviously they agreed... so what's the beef?

Well, I think the fine was for bagging the NHL in front of the press. Taking a parallel with my line of work, if my company worked on the water mains near my house, and when they put them in installed substandard pipes and whatnot, a pipe bursts, and causes $100k+ in damage, and the press interviews me and I say that the engineer who designed the pipeline needed to have his license revoked, it doesn't matter how correct and factual the statement is or how much it reflects the majority of my neighbords, my ass is likley fired. I think this was the case for Q.

No mention of the hit on Brent Seabrook a year ago... heh....

Thats the only thing I can say that was wrong....

What I got out of the video is that he was only concentrating on the illegal acts he was suspended/fined for. As relevant as it was, since it was a "hockey play" <gag>, as far as disipline goes, it matters to them as much as passing a cop going 58 in a 55 (and the cop doesn't even light his cherries up, much less pulling them over and giving them a ticket) in a later DUI proceeding.

I wish that they would let him play now while he appeals. Then they deny his appeal and he loses more salary in games next year.

Coyotes' Torres appealing 25-game suspension

By Chris KucTribune reporter

12:30 p.m. CDT, May 3, 2012

Raffi Torres believes the 25-game suspension he received for his illegal and dangerous hit on theChicago Blackhawks' Marian Hossa is too harsh.

According to multiple reports, the Coyotes winger and the National Hockey LeaguePlayers' Association are appealing the suspension, which was handed down by NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan following Torres' open-ice hit during Game 3 of theWestern Conference quarterfinals April 18 at the United Center.

Torres left his skates to drive his shoulder into Hossa's chin and Hossa was carted off the ice on a stretcher and taken to Northwestern Hospital with a severe concussion. The veteran did not play the rest of the series and is currently recovering at his home in Slovakia.

After the game, Torres said: "First off, I hope (Hossa) is all right. But as far as the hit goes, I felt like it was a hockey play, just trying to finish my hit out there."

Following the suspension, the longest since the Islanders' Chris Simon was given a 30-game punishment for stomping on the leg of the Penguins' Jarkko Ruutu in 2007, Torres released a statement reading: "My main concern is for the healthy recovery of Marian Hossa, and I hope that he will be able to get back on the ice to compete again soon. I sincerely regret injuring Marian"

Torres is a multiple repeat offender, having been fined or suspended five times during his career.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman will hear the appeal that could occur next week and make a ruling on whether to lighten the suspension.

yup if we had Scott, he would just get kicked out of the game for calling Torres on at the face off like he did last year.

The Hawks can sign me to league minimum, prorate it for the one day I will play, and I will run him.

I will just need someone to hold him still.......

I've seen you skate. Even if someone was holding him still you'd probably miss.

Doesn't surprise me.

**** him, he got the 25 games and interesting enough, the level of cheap hockey has toned down a bit in the playoffs.

Players are starting to get a clue...

Hope he loses the appeal and Bettman makes it 25 regular season games, not counting the playoffs. That would send a message. Worked for Cooke.

HAHAHAHAH NOW IT's the our turn to use an injury to influence policy. I hope he's alright, and I'm not saying he's faking it, but if he's fine now, I hope he really plays it up in the media until after Torres appeal hearing.

Hawks' Hossa 'still not feeling like myself'

It has been just a little more than two weeks sinceChicago Blackhawks winger Marian Hossa was carted off the ice on a stretcher after a vicious hit by the Coyotes' Raffi Torres during Game 3 of the Western Conference quarterfinals.

Hossa is recovering from a severe concussion sustained in the April 17 incident and said Thursday from his home in Slovakia, "I'm still not feeling like myself. It's going to take some time, but the good thing it is step by step it's getting a little bit better."

Hossa said he remembers little of the hit when Torres left his skates to deliver a blow with his shoulder to Hossa's chin.

"I was playing the puck by our bench," Hossa said. "I had two players around me (and) I saw them. When I tried to make a little play and tried to get it to our centerman after I played the puck ... basically somebody just came and hit me and since then I don't remember much.

"I remember a few seconds of seeing Dr. (Michael) Terry," Hossa continued. "I don't remember being in the dressing room. I just remember a little bit in the ambulance and I woke up in the hospital. Then in the hospital I was feeling better and started remembering more."

There was no penalty on the play, but Torres was given a 25-game suspension by NHLdisciplinarian Brendan Shanahan. On Thursday, Torres appealed the ban through the National Hockey League Players' Association.

"I was surprised there was no penalty," Hossa said. "I wouldn't mind getting hit (but) the one thing that upset me was the jump and that's how he hit my head. Otherwise, everything would be fine."

Torres is a multiple repeat offender, having been fined or suspended five times during his career.

"He wouldn't have gotten 25 games if he hadn't had a history of the same hit before," Hossa said. "He didn't get the 25 games because of my hit."

Hossa, who said he had a minor concussion one other time during his career while as a member of the Red Wings, said he expects to be ready when the Hawks open training camp in September.

"The good thing is, I'm slowly getting better," he said. "It's been a few weeks now and obviously I'm not feeling myself yet. (But) I'm feeling better and slowly going for walks. That's a good thing. Training camp is still far away and we'll see what's going to happen. I've been in contact with the organization, Dr. Terry and my trainers. So far, small steps (and) I'm getting better. I believe I'll be ready."

Around a week after the hit, Torres contacted Hossa via phone.

"It's nice that he contacted me but on the other hand, I told him ... the one thing I was upset (about) was the jump," Hossa said. "I may have been hit, but not in the head and he wouldn't have the 25 games. The phone conversation was pretty quick."

Hossa said he spent "basically one week of just sitting at home" and "that was not fun. The good thing is I can move around now. Things are bothering me less than before. It's a good sign."

When asked if the injury would affect his offseason training, Hossa said: "It all depends. I'm going to have like a month (when I) want to be just totally off. Then slowly do little things. Maybe a little bike. (When) training camp (comes) I believe I'll be ready. It's a long time to training camp and I have time to recover so I believe I have lots of time in front of me."

The veteran added that he wasn't happy about the incident because he "couldn't help the team in the other games." The Hawks eventually fell in six games to the Coyotes.

In further regard to Torres' suspension, Hossa said: "He's paying for it right now. He got 25 games and that's a long time. Hopefully he's going to learn from it. You don't want to see this stuff in hockey. It happens and obviously he got lots of games. On the other hand, it doesn't help me or our team. I was angry, but what can you do? It's behind us not and I'm trying to focus on my rehab and go from there."
