That‘s not how roster management works lol. I can never understand how someone can be pro or con any trade without evaluating the return consideration.
No offense but the mentality of “ he’s our best player, don’t trade him” is lazy and weak.
What the Bulls did is not how roster management works, lol.
First of all the team who gets the best player in the trade usually wins it!
You can trade away your best player though, if you fill in the needs and upgrade other positions with it.
Is that what the Bulls did?
The Bulls got Dunn, Lavine and Markkanen for Jimmy.
Has Dunn from 2017 till 2020 even been a better player than Rondo? (Although I hate this guy). And he is not even on the team anymore.
Zach vs. Jimmy, we don´t even have to talk about that. Jimmy is the better player.
So that leaves Markkannen as the deciding factor. Was him being an upgrade at PF over Mirotic worth going through this rebuild?
The Bulls were 27-55 the year after the trade.
Maybe the Bulls keeping Jimmy in 2017, have a chance of drafting either Donovan Mitchell or Bam Adebayo 6 or 7 spots behind at where Markkanen was picked and look for a PG in FA... maybe that would have been a better path...
