I have actually seen this exhibit at the MGM and saw these guys just walking around with the lions without any protection what so ever. The trainer next to the lion noticed the male was acting different and tried to get his attention...however that large male had ideas of his own.

I've seen the exhibit, too - I'm actually more surprised to see the lions in there actually doing something.

Props to the one trainer - from the video it looked like he could just "tell" something was up with that male lion.

They are beautiful animals but they belong in the wild.

What Bri said... you're never going to TAME a wild animal, it simply can't happen. Instincts take over sometimes. Look at bear trainers who have raised grizzlies from the time they were Cubs and end up getting killed by the same animal.

the guy that owns the lions/runs that shit has like 20-30 of them. he owns a huge preserve outside of vegas and they "change the lions" twice a day. guess they have a custom lion truck that transports them daily. sorta like the pope-mobile, haha. so each lion ends up being in the exhibit a few hours a week max. went to vegas twice last year and i always check out the lions, they are awesome creatures.

Your right, they are treated very nice. However, your still talking a large predatory animal that if bored or in a bad mood could take out everyone of those trainers in the enclosure.

Sort of like the Killer Whale issue in San Diego.

Doesn't change the fact that these are wild animals and should be out in the wild, not in captivity. It's only a matter of time before something like this happens.

Yes, they should be out in the wild. Unfortunatley for several of these big cats there time in wild is coming to an end. Some of them will likely be extinct within the next 20-30 years (especially the Siberian Tiger). Unfortunately the captive animals will be the only ones left.

That dude is lucky as hell. And for everyone saying they belong in the wild, there's such an over population of captive big cats just be glad these few lions get to enjoy a nice place like that and food. There's some really fucked up people out there with 20-30 lions and tigers that barely feed them and have them cooped up in what is basically a dog cage.

And again...the sad thing is that WHEN they attack their owners they'll be destroyed...rather than feeding what's left the owner to the big cats and setting them free.

Maybe not. He didn't look to do any damage to the guy.

There was a Grizzly used in movies that killed his trainer last year. They requested the Bear not be destroyed and he was not.

It all depends. Wild animals are just that. Unfortunately some animals will NEED to be in captivity because of the over hunting of certain species. IE why there are no plains grizzly's in existence any longer.

They killed them all.

Well, people want to be in those areas...so to bad nature.

That is of course why people like Tim Treadwell did all they could to save the bear!

Thats not a bad idea for a thread. People who've been ate by large carnivorous animals/reptiles/fish. Bonus points for dumb ass behavior leading to their demise.

I doubt the brown bears that gobbled down Treadwell or his girlfriend gave a rats ass who or what they were (other than pretty damn tasty) before they shat them out.

Similar to what the US did to the Native American Indian.

They have that attack on video, the fact that the Bear happened to hit his jugular vein is why he died from loss of blood. They determined the Bear was not trying to hurt him. Had he wanted to do that it would have been a far more brutal death.

They are wild animals. The entire time I was in Montana up in the Mountains I had a gun on me. Why, because you could be the one HUNTED there.

Tim Treadwell wasn't the trainer that was killed. He was the one who was half eaten by grizzlies in Alaska along with his girlfriend. He spent 13 years with them. He got arrogant and careless towards the end.

After reading his bio on Wikipedia I'm actually surprised he lasted 13 seasons.

Human with a weapon=fighting chance.

Human without a weapon=talking meat.

It helps to remember this.
