What a season it has been! Let's take a look at some of the classic moments:
The Drake LaRoche saga
Last year, Adam LaRoche decides that yanking his kid out of school (it's not really their thing, he says) and letting him pester the team and stare at naked men is a good idea. Unfortunately for him and his kid, ol' Kenny Williams disagrees and tells Adam to not bring him every day. This results in Adam promptly retiring and taking his .210 batting average with him. Sale decides it's a good idea to get into a screaming match with Williams and the entire team almost boycotts the game that was to be played that afternoon. And to think all this was before the regular season began.
The good start and subsequent collapse
The White Sox surprised the entire league by jumping out to an AL best 23-10 by May 9th. There were talks of a possible Red Line World Series. The Sox then went on to finish the month 5-15. The Sox now find themselves 5 games below .500. No playoffs for the umpteenth straight year.
Sale's Tantrum
Shortly before he was set to start, it was announced that White Sox ace Chris Sale had been scratched and sent home. While injury or illness was first suspected, it then came out that Sale had cut up all the Sox jerseys because "he didn't like 'em". This led to Sale getting suspended for 5 games and fueled trade rumors about him. Sale would ultimately end up staying with the team (for now).
The Name Change
The White Sox decided it would be a smart idea to change their ballpark name to Guaranteed Rate Field. Nothing says pride and tradition like selling the naming rights to a company that was founded way back in 2000. If that weren't enough Guaranteed Rate's logo features an arrow pointing down; a logo that will certainly appear on the field come next season. A fitting epitome of the White Sox the last century.
Not that any of this matters, as no one shows up to the games anyways.
What about the Cubs?
We all know how much White Sox fans care about the Cubs. Seeing the Cubs lose typically makes Sox fans happier than seeing their own team win. The Cubs have simply cruised along to an 81-45 record this season, which is good enough for best in the majors. With a stacked team that isn't' going anywhere for the next couple years (at minimum), they look poised to end that 100+ year streak of misery and suffering (then again, they are the Cubs, so nothing is guaranteed [no pun intended])
So anyways, that's about all for now. I can't wait to see what the next chapter of this highly entertaining year is.
