I feel like this point goes unmentioned too often. Everyone compares Trubisky to Mahomes and Watson but from the Bears' perspective, they could have waited to draft a QB in 2018. Many draft analysts said the 2017 draft was not as good as the 2018 one was projected to be. They could have elected to not draft a quarterback and rode out Glennon in a terrible year (it was terrible anyways with Trubisky).

So in my mind, the Bears and Trubisky should be judged off of not only what Mahomes and Watson do, but also what Darnold, Mayfield, Josh Allen, and Josh Rosen do. Because, the Bears drafted at 8 where Rosen was available. Also, don't forget that they traded up to get Trubisky. They could have traded up in this draft instead if they really liked a QB.

Trubisky is very inexperienced..Only 14 college starts..It shows, but he will learn as he goes

I mean of course I want him to do that. But, the Bears and Pace should be judged off of the players they had a chance to select but didn't. I mean Rosen looks like a super star when you watch him play. I don't know when he'll be able to display that considering he's on a dogshit team, but I think it'll become apparent at some point. His footwork and pocket movement are incredible. His throws are accurate, I think Rosen will be the best out of all of them save maybe Mahomes.

Edit: Sure, Alex Smith is a good QB now and that's probably Trubisky's upside, but you still have to kill the 49ers for not selecting Aaron Rodgers.

Comparing him to the 2018 class is a lot more attenuated though. We know for sure who the Bears could have drafted in 2017, but it's all just speculation for 2018 because we don't know for certain where their draft position would be (although it's probably safe to assume at least #8) or whether they'd be able to trade up. E.g., I don't think the Jets or Cleveland would have traded back b/c they both desperately needed QBs.

Why not just draft Watson or Mahomes without trading up? Pace knew Trubisky only started 13 or 14 college games. This is a SB team with one of thoes two QBs.

No excuses...

Does he HAVE to be, or are you just looking to justify something that most likely was a reach by Pace?

Because, just fyi, he's literally not a rookie.

This entire thread is pretty fucktarded

I'd be happy with judging him against Rosen then because I think he'll be the best out of this class and he went 11. As I said previously, it'll probably be a while b4 Rosen can show how good he is considering Arizona is an apocalyptic team.

I'm putting more pressure on Pace's pick not less. Have you read anything in this thread? I'm not talking about this year alone, I'm talking about their careers. Reading is hard i guess.

I'm clearly saying that it was Paces choice to go against the consensus which was 2018 would be a better QB class than 2017 and draft a QB. He could have waited until 2018 to draft a QB and therefore if they're considerably better than anyone in the 2017 including Trubisky, that's on Pace.

I'm not going to compare a vet to rookies no matter how you want to spin it. I don't care if you're trying to make pace look worse or better, the entire premise is stupid.

The 2018 QBs have proved nothing. None of the QBs in 2018 are better than Watson or Mahomes. Can’t wait till 2018 when you are picking in the top 3. You have no clue where you will be picking the next year.

What Pace should have done is draft one of the QBs that demonstrated great QB play for over 2 years (e.g. Watson or Mahomes). You don’t trade up for an unexperienced project QB.

Pace choked...

When you're at the point of comparing entire careers literally no one looks at what year the player was drafted. Have you ever delved into career statistics before? Do you go back and see who came out that year for comparisons?

What in the actual fuck are you even going on about? Just stop

WTF snow trubisky is being compared to current rookies? Why did the bears draft a project if mahomes was more mature and had better mechanics and footwork? I thought he was the project?
