Break out your hashtags, Jessica Chastain has reportedly been offered the lead in True Detective Season 2. According to The Nerdist:

Recent rumors have stated series creator Nic Pizzolatto was seeking a female-driven cast for Season 2 of the hit HBO series, and now today, Nerdist has learned exclusively one of the names that may be on the bill in 2015: Jessica Chastain.

According to sources, the Zero Dark Thirty actress has been offered a leading role in the second season but has yet to accept. As for official confirmation, we reached out to representatives for Chastain, who have declined to comment at this time.

Between glowing reviews at Cannes, an upcoming Marilyn Monroe film, and that much anticipated Interstellar trailer, Chastain has had quite the busy couple of weeks. In fact, the actress couldn’t be busier. So will she be able to take time out of her schedule for HBO? It couldn’t possibly hurt, Chastain has a lot of award chache and prestige, but has yet to break out into true household name stardom. An across the board hit like True Detective could put her on another level entirely. And if HBO could wrangle Chastain and Brad Pitt (who is also rumored to have been offered a role) to be her partner? Well, that’s certainly one way to top McConaughey.

The series was too good..You had to think....They had to dumb it down for the general TV watching morons.

Hope I'm wrong

I don't think they'll necessarily have to dumb it down. The creators' plan from the start was to make it an anthology, with different stars each season.

I know that, but I dont think selecting Chastain was a good choice except to sell it to the masses..Like the comparison you made to the killing...But as I said..I hope I'm wrong

Dont know why you would make that assumption? Cause of the cast? I dont know this chastain chick but brad pitt has been, at least prior to dallas buyers club and true detectives, a historically better actor then WH or MM..imo

Pitt would be good, but that didnt sound like sure thing..He would help IMO..

When I first heard about last season, I didnt think Harrelson would be good either..Turned out he was great

you can't top Mathew and Woody. Brad Pitt can be cute and zanny....some chickcentric cast can be cute and oh we will wring our hands in the suspense of something bad happening to a female, how clever,

but you can't top that pairing for twisted and dark and thought provoking. I might just rewatch last season and skip the new one.

The thing that was good to me about the series was how damn dark it was. It kind of reminded me of Unforgiven with Eastwood and Freeman
against Little Bill. that was dark. I hope like hell they don't turn this into a sort of Cagney and Lacy show.

They did a great job, no question but Brad Pitt in Seven, 12 monkies, fight club...all dark and depraved characters...he definitely has the acting chops...

"WHAT'S IN THE BOXXXXXXX!!!! OHHH GAWDDDD!!"

Woody and MM are worlds better than the airhead Pitt....but I do loke some of his roles.

What a shame. Here come TV quality actors

I've been meaning to watch this show.

Also, why does it matter if this chick is the new lead? I have no fucking clue who she is.

relax. nic will do good work. he's a very talented writer, i know him a little bit. if it's female-driven doesn't mean it's going to be C&L, it'll be good. he knows what he's doing.
