Are you suggesting that there are no *** Navy SEALS? (for one small instance)

Haven't got a clue but I would be surprised if their wasn't. Once upon a time, allegedly, their were no *** _________________________.

What I was actually getting at was giving them the equality they want, for better or worse.

Just trying to understand this. So if it would be like the crew of say the Nimitz participating, they would be approved because they were actually representing a military entity, but a single sailor/soldier is not approved because they are just representing themselves and their singular beliefs? It is not a criticism, just a question. So do people that participate at the Blackhawk games during the anthem have to have prior approval to do so? This all seems a little unclear.

This is a political type event so no military members should be present. Like if it was at a rally for Obama you will not be in uniform. Most parades would be ok but ones like this or racial ones or religious ones you are not allowed to represent the armed services in uniform.

I got to Ft. Campbell right after a guy was killed for being *** by three of his platoon mates. That was in late 99 I believe.

There are also enlisted women in S2 and S1 shops in line infantry units and now officers in some other shops, like S3.

EDIT: My info on the *** soldier being killed at Ft Campbell was a little rusty. In August 1999 Barry Winchell was killed by one person. Once I was there (middle of 2000), another soldier was beaten and his truck was destroyed in a hate crime by three platoon mates.

And that is the sad, yet dangerous part of coming out while in service. There can be too many francis's. Somehow, though, I suspect that the youts coming in now are far more tolerant then during most of my time in....which is why I found it amazing that two guys confided in me. Then again I was their SGT and I think they got a strong sense that I could care less what there sexual pref was and could keep my mouth shut.

All honor guards\VIP units need to get approval for any event they are part of. Since they are designated as honor guards the precedence of what is allowed and the channels for approval are a bit more streamlined.

What has constituted that pre-approval is beyond me, along with the why's, but I imagine that if it is something that is not deeply politically motivated it was looked at ok as one was not taking a stance on a polarizing subject\topic\entity in support of one side or the other.

So if you want to get married in your uniform, do you have to obtain special permission?

I got married in my air force dress uniform. Didn't ask and nobody cared. Not sure, but I don't think it is necassary.

I think as long as you follow your branch's rules for the wear and appearance of the uniform, then it is okay. You can't wear a dress uniform with sneakers and a baseball cap or ribbons that you didn't earn...for instance.
