Re: Stan the Capologist

The single biggest quote from that article is "gambled and won"; meaning the Cup.

We lose that first round series to Nashville and there would have been hell to pay.

It all worked out in the end.

Except they didn't lose, and there was much rejoicing.

Re: Stan the Capologist

Thought it was a good article when I read it this morning. Not that it was a surprise, but it is nice to have Stan state that (1) acceptance of T&K's bonuses would apply to next season; (2) they fully knew of the cap issue and were deciding on moving players before the beginning of last season as not moving them and not winning would have cause more hell with the fans; (3) he was working on the TKK deals well before I thought they were.

Pretty good article.

And I have absolutely no problem with whats been done this summer. In fact I don't have a problem with anything Stan has accomplished so far as GM. From signing the three, to trading Barker, to the moves since the Cup.

Not one thing. This team will be as good as they were last year and prove all those saying we are "decimated", fools. Barring serious injuries of course.

I'm more than pleased with the Bowman era, which is more Scotty than Stan. Although Stan is getting the credit, and Scotty wants it that way.

And what happened this summer was not because the Hawks won the Cup. Lots of moves would have been made even if the Hawks would have lost to Nashville in the first round.

Kane, Toews, Keith, and Hammer all had their contracts expire last year and got big raises (which they deserve), and we got the Campbell contract screwing things up. We got very lucky that Turco was available at that price. Kudos to Stan for negotiating that deal. Shit, Turco is only making $500k more than Craw.

The trades have been good, and I love what we got back, including Leddy in the Barker trade.

We're going to have an awesome ride here the next 5-10 years. I am excited beyond words.

Regardless if it's Stan or Scottie, it's Stan that sink or swims by them.

Although I do agree with you. Just as it was said the line change during the finals was Scotties ideas. You have to love a guy who just wins the Stanley Cup an 11th time reading game notes during the plane ride home with the Cup!

Seriously, I am so freakin' stoked by the prospects Stan has gotten back this year in the various trades, along with (mostly) who they drafted in Cali, and when all these are added to the prospects the Hawks already had I am going mad crazy with excitement just thinking about if even half these little fools live up to expectations and pan out over the next several years!

Just yesterday I was thinking to myself, I can't hardly stand it that The Hockey News' "Future Watch" issue doesn't come out until next March and was bummed at the wait. In the 2009 team rankings the Hawks were in the 7th spot with an A- grade and then in the 2010 issue they were in the 4th spot with an A- grade so it'll be interesting to see how they fare in the 2011 issue.

I am of the opinion that he is the greatest hockey mind of all time. His love of the game is unrivaled as well. It's not like he NEEDS to work anymore, yet, there he is, at nearly 77 years old, leaving his fingerprints all over yet ANOTHER hockey team. Amazing.

The draft "experts" are very unhappy with the draft Stan had. I don't know, as I haven't followed it that closely.

Personally, I think Stan has done a great job considering what a mess he had to untangle. Hopefully he'll just get better at it as he gain experience. And it's a bonus that he has one of the greatest hockey brains to pick for suggestions and ideas. The Hawks are still going to be contenders and the infusion of new blood will hopefully remedy any cup hangover.

Really? I didn't realize that the hockey pundits were unhappy with the Hawks draft. They started draft weekend and got one Hayes brother and then by the end of the weekend they'd worked some mojo and gotten the other Hayes brother in a deal to boot. Plus they'd gotten Rensfeldt. Not bad at all IMO considering where their picks were and the picks they had gotten in deals. Though I'll be the first to admit that going into the draft I really, really wanted them to pick Brock Nelson with one of their 1sts and then when he was still available and they used their 1st pick to get Hayes then they traded their other 1st rounder to the NYI for a couple of 2nd round picks and the Islanders used it to get Nelson I was bummed.

I'm not in some big hurry to get next season under way.

I never realized that when you win the title, the season never really ends. The Hawks are at the top of the mountain, and I want to enjoy this feeling for as long as I possibly can withoot having to worry aboot playing games.

The title defense will start soon enough. I'm still enjoying the afterglow.

By "experts" I mean the armchair GM's that infest the hockeyboards of the internet. Picking Hayes in the first round was according to them a huge fail and the Hawks should have picked whatever players that were left on the lists compiled by the scouting agencies all these "experts" base their infallible opinions on.

Re: Stan the Capologist

"Jonathan told me, 'I don't want my contract to get in the way and, if I sign, everybody says, 'Does that mean I'm going to get traded or what?' about (Keith) and Kane. So unless we can do it together I really don't care about my contract,'" Bowman related.

This is my favorite part of the article. Tazer putting the team first; the kid gets classier and classier.
