WW2 was probably the last war where the "good guys" and "bad guys" were clear cut. That generation gave up more than any other generation ever has and I greatly respect them for it.

In any event, I appreciate everyone's service nonetheless.

And they created this great America that their children promptly decided to destroy.

Irrespective of whether or not you agree with whatever war, you gotta hand it to people who would be willing to fight in it. That part about it should never be political.

Cheers to all the vets here.

Are you also blind? I didn't bring it into the conversation to begin with. I responded to someone else's comment. Frankly I couldn't care any less if you're insulted by the fact your generation fucked everything up. Whats worse is you fucks are still clinging to life harder than I am to my hair while continuing to **** up this country.

The generational narrative in this thread is pretty fucked up. Sounds like whinging to me. What the **** have you done?

For the record, I guess I fall in Gen X, but this whining and finger pointing doesn't bode well for the present gen.

Fucked up.

Peace anyway.

I do think that our generation had a lot to do with fucking up this country. My point, though, is that this country was fucked up by those who forgot what their forefathers fought for and believed in. Our fore-fathers believed in this country and what it stood for. They didn't have these fucking "philosophers" nit picking their beliefs and standards.

I ask this from you who are obviously alien to what I believe. What, in your estimation, was so fucked up about my generation? Was it the fact that this country got split in its stands and beliefs? A split that still exists to this day. Who was correct in your estimation?

To keep this short and sweet, I think the intergenerational problem is simply one of change and the resistance to it. The more change/upheaval, the more resistance, and the more things get out of touch. The other problem is that there's generally no way to return to the "good old days" (which were completely different for those that were forced to sit in the back of the bus, but I digress), because the good old days caused the problems of the here-and-now.

I think the overriding baby boomer issue is that a metric shit-tonne of change happened, and they didn't adapt to it well. Households went from single to dual income? They worked more rather than acquired less (in general). Then they measure the success of their progeny and subprogeny by the same values. They might have been able to bootstrap themselves after high school. It wasn't possible when I graduated and now? Forget about it. But, they still have that value.

But again, to be fair, they aren't the only ones with problems. GenX was latchkeyed in general because the baby boomers because their parents were working too hard to keeping up with the Joneses. Reacting to that, GenXers became helicopter parents. As such, their millennial progeny can't take a shit without written instructions and being supervised (metaphorically)--something both GenX'ers and Baby boomers never had problems with. I'm sure the Millenials are fucking things up in their own way, as well.

As for tie-in to veterans, let's keep in mind that the baby boomers did start with the questioning of the Military en masse back for Vietnam.

IMHO regardless of the reasons for the war and your belief in it--it takes guts to be in the military--drafted or not. I think a lot of Vietnam vets got a completely raw deal. The war wasn't their fault yet they fought in it and took the blame. None of the Vietnam vets should be derided for being a Vietnam vet (unless they broke the USCMJ, which applies to any vet)--especially to the level they were. Ditto for any vet.

Nevermind I found it. So Im just outside of it.

Baby boomers are people born during the demographic post–World War II baby boom approximately between the years 1946 and 1964, giving an age range between 50 and 69 as of 2015. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the term "baby boomer" is also used in a cultural context.

Its such an american sentiment to think of fellow citizens as those who belong and those who do not.

You are a foul, disgusting creature riddled by ignorance, fear, and intolerance. You do not represent the ideals of this country or what we fight to preserve. And you have zero historical perspective. Your concept of what this country was and what it is today is completely divorced from reality. Your bullshit is a disgrace to this thread.

The Korean war also I think. Met a bunch of retired Marines last week-end in San Diego who served together both in WWII and Korea. I love to hear these guys share stories:)
