This team needed more depth offensively more than it needed a high priced closer.

Too bad because the Sox aren't spending any more money, according to Hahn. Looks like we're back to fishing for bargain corner outfielders to replace Tank.

Payroll for 2015 is currently $90MM for 2015, which is the limit, according to Hahn.

Given what our attendance has been that is fine by me. I am shocked it is that high.

Really? Attendance? You've got to be kidding, right? The Sox and every other team in the city make money, fans need to stop trying to make excuses for the frugality.

An extra $12.5MM per year for Melky would not hurt or affect JR's pocket book one way or the other.

This is the difference between teams that have won and teams that haven't. You have to spend money to acquire talent and increase your depth.

A major market team with a solid core of talent should be able to spend $120MM without batting an eyelash if you think you have a chance. If they don't do it now, they will have trade for a bat later. As constructed right now, we might be in contention for a wild card spot. A LF'er who can actually field and hit puts us in the conversation for a division championship/World Series appearance. Another solid arm in the rotation and we're a clear favorite to win it all.

.

Do you have a link to this money they make and from where it is coming from? Others have trumpeted this tune before without any evidence to back it. Not saying it isn't out there, I just want to see it.

Owners don't make revenue and earnings figures available to the public for obvious reasons.

If the Sox really set their limit at $90 million I am curious to find out why they thought it would be a good idea to add a closer that take up almost 13% of their cap

So you got nothing. Just want to be sure on that.

I got nothing for people you because you, like many fans are in denial. JR is a billionaire owner of two large market sport franchises, which are, for the most part hobbies for his amusement. There is substantial evidence to support my claim that the Sox make money and can afford to spend more money if they wanted to do. Simply put, they've done it before. Lower attendance is a product of losing records for two consecutive years. Attendance has been low on the north side for the same reason, yet everyone knows they can and will spend more money. This ain't Cleveland. We're talking about the 3rd largest media market in the country, with millions of fans around the world.

That's what I've been trying to say. Roberts has been good, but he's not worth that kind of money for a 73 win team operating on a self-imposed limited budget.

OVER 20 BLOWN SAVES!!!!!!!!!!!! Why is it so hard to understand....and they go and get the best available guy for that to be cut down to 4-5 blown saves.... How many wins does that put us at?

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago White Sox
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Army Black Knights

Actually they were drawing over 2 mil in ticket sales prior to 2011-2012. Jacking the ticket prices up every year following the WS Championship bit them in the ass and people weren't able to spend as much money on leisurely pursuits following the recession.

The bullpen was decimated with injuries last year. Why is that so hard to understand?

Ziggy, true, true, but saying winning baseball draws Sox fans just ain't true on it's own.

Uh, if you want to draw on the southside, you have to field a quality team.

You can't expect Sox fans to pay the highest ticket prices in baseball to watch a team that's lost 188 games the last two seasons.

Two superstars on an improved roster will change this trend. It's called accountability from your fanbase, and that's how it's supposed to work.

As Cubs fans have shown, blindly supporting a loser doesn't work in professional sports.

Really? Because all the other guys were sooo good and those injured guys are coming back to solidify our bull pen? Injuries did not matter it was just a terrible group of players.

Jones only injury that mattered in the bullpen and he won't be back 100% till next June,July and probably won't even be 100% till June of 2016
