Lovely. Why trade for broken players in the first place? STOOPID! Same with Baker. STOOPID!

Not that big a deal.. the ligaments were in good shape, and they said he will probably play in AFL and get ready for 2014 season

Scott baker is doing long toss and is expected back before Aug., probably around the trade deadline..

Its a concern when he hasnt pitched in over 2 years. Just because the Tommy John looks alright doesnt mean this guy isnt injury prone. No, its not massive issue but it should be a concern. He is looking more and more like a relief pitcher.

He will be pitching in about 2 months with possible game time in late August (6 weeks recovery puts it at mid July and rehab puts him in mid August).

Not saying he gonna step in and pitch lights out right away next year.

dont know the stats of guys coming off TJ surgery if they become injury prone or not but the kid is 20 YO he young with a lot of years ahead of him.

he will go to the Arizona fall league and work his way back, he will prob. have extended ST, go to the minors and get some innings in to build up arm strength and if all works out he could be brought up July AUg 2014 most likely as a reliever and go from there..

cant say weather or not he destined to be a reliever or how effective he will be as a starter until he starts and completes his come back..
even if its 2016 when he becomes a full time starter, he'll just be 23 then.

so, not concerned right now... ill wait to see how he looks in AFL and see where he at come ST on..

Love how Cashner was no big loss because he was 'injury prone'.

But now a player who looks like he will not throw one competitive pitch for the Cubs at any level a full year after he was traded for is 'no big deal'

Unbelievable the double standard some push.

So do they need to add more handicap parking for the players in the future?

Lets see.
Paul Maholm 6-4 3.38 10 starts. Reed Johnson .280/.333/.380
For
a busted arm and a busted arm. (Jaye Chapman 7 day DL after putting up a 17.05 ERA)

great.

Par for course.

It is a residual effect from the initial surgery, much like scar tissue! It isn't an additional injury on top of the original injury. Same thing with Baker. It pushes back their timetables and nothing else.

I love how someone chastises the Cubs for trading an injury prone Andrew Cashner for a productive major league 1B; while completely writing off Arodys Vizcaino as an injury prone prospect. But hey, at least you are consistent in your blind hatred of every move the Cubs make. But if you really want to break down this trade circle:

Cubs traded Marshall for LH mid to back of rotation SP (Wood).
Cubs promote James Russell to LH setup man.
Cubs traded RP with electric arm and possible top end rotation SP (Andrew Cashner) for Anthony Rizzo.
Cubs traded LH mid to back of rotation SP (Maholm) for RP with electric arm and possible top end rotation SP (Vizcaino).

Basically, the Cubs received 1B of the future along with zero sum in the rotation and bullpen while getting younger.
