If you haven't tried them yet, check out Home Run Inn pizzas. Easily the best store bought pizza I've ever had.

I worked their for a few years as a 2nd job for some extra money to pay off a few outstanding bills. 2-3 nights a week and every weekend. It was a typical retail job. I never experienced or witnessed any of the horror stories about forcing people to work off the clock though. I went in, did my job, took my breaks, and left when my shift was over. I actually got in trouble once for NOT taking my lunch.
The only time I had a problem was when a new manager came in and tried to throw his weight around by changing my schedule when I had been working the same exact hours for months. I was at the point where I didn't even bother looking at the schedule anymore. Then he tried scheduling me for Saturday and Sunday nights. That didn't last long.
They also didn't like when I would tell them I needed time off by leaving a note for the department manager that I literally never saw because he worked days M-F. My attitude at that point was IDGAF, I'm only here for an extra paycheck so if I need time off, I'm gonna take it.
IMHO, it's a shitty retail job not really much worse than any other shitty retail job out there.
In Illinois, if you work more than 7.5 continuous hours, your employer is required to give you a 20-minute meal break before the first 5 hours of your shift. Most companies don't want to have to deal with the IDOL when a disgruntled ex-employee claims they weren't allowed to take lunch breaks, so smart companies have written policies that make meal periods mandatory. With a policy in place, they can fire you for not taking a lunch break and protest your unemployment for failure to follow company policy.
Same goes for punching-out and "working through" your lunch. That's one's a federal no-no because employers are required to compensate employees while they are doing their jobs.
Going into a walmart damages my perception of humanity.
