No. He got what he deserved.

You don't throw a fucking cheap shot to a guys head when the puck was nowhere near him.

sedins hit was dirty, i dont give a **** what hawkwriter says. if you cant see it in the video, your blind.

Sedin's check is a headshot but not as bad as Keith's.

Should have gotten 1 game at most but none is fine.

Is it a coincidence that fans at other forums who don't have any affiliation to the Hawks/Nucks seem to think this was fair punishment for both players?

I think a lot of people here are heated and focusing on the rivalry and the past...and I understand that but it doesn't make the hit right.

Weird.

No one is/was justifying the hit. I don't think anyone is really questioning the suspension either.

The length and the change from a phone to an inperson hearing is mind boggling as well. Iago had a great post to end the Keith thread, and it may have been lost.

Now that the suspension has been handed down and looking back at this "switch," this "switch" never should have been publicized. He was suspended 5, which is still plausible for a phone hearing. Tell me it wouldn't have been best to stick to their original guns.

It confirms the league's disorganization and "clown league" it truly is (as if there was any prior doubt). This is supposed to be a professional league.

I love the game and I'm embarrassed for the league, really. Clowns.
I also believe in EDIB saying if roles were reversed, we wouldn't see Sedin suspended for 5 games.

I don't give a shit about Sedin's hit.

I expected 2 or 3 games based largely on Keith's clean record. He got 5. There were many odd parts to the whole story but in the end with all things considered- he sits 5 games. Not a big deal, but Shanahan has never been perfect. The biggest offender in the whole situation was the referees in the game. They were awful.

I'll vote no because 5 is in between what both sides wanted.

wanna suspend the guy? fine. shouldnt have gotten 5 games for never having a reputation at all for dirty play. sedins wasnt as bad as keiths, not arguing that, arguing the fact that in your opinion it was "a whole lot worse" or whatever you said. It was worse but not by alot.

im not concerned with fans on other forums and what they seem to think. Im going by what I saw, and the total inconsistent, stupid ass NHL for not having any sort of tier levels of punishment.

IMO I believe a check/push into the boards head first on players that we have seen in the past is a lot more dangerous.when a group of doctors tell you that an elbow to the head has less ramifications than a head first push/check into the boards I gotta go with that, and we have seen much less penalty for those type of infractions. Not sure how much the medical field in specific detail is involved with different types of hits and punishment, but if they arent using experts they really should.

yes, 5 games is too many if for no other reason than he had no record.

3 would have been fine IMO

but in the end it doesnt matter too much because he wont miss playoff time

Well I hope this is enough to put this situation to bed. If we end up meeting them in the playoffs with a Toews back I will be concerned for payback. The rivalry is stupid and crazy enough, I dont want to see any major injuries anymore. If they want to pull hair and punch the **** out of each other so be it, nothing more nothing less.

the ONLY good thing is if they meet in the playoffs, one would assume that any acts of retaliation would be taken more seriously...

on the other hand, Shanahan flip flops more than Mitt Romney, so who knows

A playoff matchup in the western finals this year would be great. I have a feeling it would make the previous 3 years look like exhibition hockey.

Well I would bet that the refs would be all hands on deck. Probably memos from the NHL to the teams ETC ETC.

If they do meet I want to over/under number set for how many times luongo cries to the refs.

yeah, probably right. if they were to meet this would be the series of the year. if you want more than just hockey but drama, action, and romantic comedy...this would be the series.

he already flopped in that last game...took a stick to the chest and grabbed his face like someone shot him in the face

Yeah, a blade (from vancouver?) caught the very tip of his mask and he went down like he was shot.

Good thing is that the stripes are wise to his shit.

Bad thing is that goalie interference is a fairly hot issue at the moment and the calls have been all over the map as of late.

I didn't think sedin would get suspended, but like I said in the other thread he hit the head with the shoulder did make an upward elbow motion. Sedin should have probably gotten one. I think the suspension was even longer when the refs got involved. Crazy 5 game suspension for a guy with a clean background

Yep.

Suspension for Sedin for the hit he did put on Keith? Uh ... no. Fine would've been plenty. He probably should've gotten a minor penalty, too, but I don't think any of the refs saw it.

I voted no because I think five games is a fair number. My issue is with the total inconsistency of the league's enforcement. Prior instances with similar circumstances have only yielded three game suspensions. Why did Keith get five when others have not? Maybe the league's decided to step up the punishment a notch ... I want to see what happens with the next suspension, after paying such close attention to this one. Although knowing that Alex Tanguay didn't even get a fucking phone call after his elbow to Spurgeon is a bit disconcerting.

Also, can't believe that the Canucks get out of that game with NOTHING. No suspensions, I can tolerate. But there has to be some sort of punishment for the shit they were pulling out there. Sedin's hit on Keith is one, Burrows with his knee on Keith's groin in a scrap is another.

Sedin being hurt in the game should not give the rest of his team immunity from discipline for being the typical Canucks.

Still love how the refs confirm this 'threat' that Keith made, yet only gave him a 2 min penalty.

If they knew of the retaliation, I would think his penalty would have been more than just a minor
