Just pick one of the following scenarios to happen and we would have locked up the division tonight even with a loss against Philly. There would be no week 17 division championshp game against Green Bay, we would be champs right now.

1. Detroit Game: If Trestman has the good sense to pull his obviously limping quarterback out of the game, we coast to a victory in all likelihood if the final drive of the game by McCown is any indication of how it would have gone if he had been put in earlier. But Trestman had a chance to redeem himself on the last fucking drive of the game and put him in. The result? He takes his two best offensive weapons out for the 2 point try and runs a draw up the middle to Forte.

2. Minnesota game: Remember the 2nd and 7 fieldgoal attempt? That wasn't a chip shot and Forte was averaging 5 yards per carry on that drive. But if you'd rather blame the defense, we can do that as well. That 2nd and 7 fieldgoal never happens if we can stop the vikings on 4th and 11 from their own 4 yard line.

3. Washington game: Up 41-38 with 2 minutes left and Washington goes the legnth of the field by running the ball. It's sad when opposing teams can run on you in when down and needing a score with less than 2 minutes left. Roy Helu Jr. went all world on us and Chris Conte shits the bed. If we can get just one stop here, we go to overtime or win it outright in regulation.

4. If Dallas doesn't blow that 21 point lead against Green Bay.

Speaking of scenarios 1-3 here; Two of these games are divisional games and all 3 are conference games. Like I said, if we win 1 of these, we're 9-6 right now and buying our 2013 Bears division championshps shirts and hats. If we win 2 of these games, we're 10-5 and in control of the 3rd seed n the playoffs. If we take care of all 3 of these games, as we should have, we're vying for a first round bye, though we'd probably finish with the 3rd seed, as our 7-4 conference record in this scenario would be just short of Carolinas 8-3 conference record, but we would go into week 17 with the possibility of beating green Bay and Carolina losing to earn that first round bye.

I won't look back at the Eagles game when reflecting on this shitstorm of a season, it will be these 3 games that ultimately will be what buries us.

4) If DAL doesn't go full dumbfuck, they work the clock A LITTLE and put GB away easily last week. The BEARS win the division before the game @ PHI even starts.

I'm not defending the BEARS or saying they deserve to win the division by default, but that's another way things could've gone.

We could've also lost against the Bengals and the Vikings (Week 2).

You win some and lose some. The Bears are lucky to still have a shot at the playoffs with this defense.

Or if the defense could stop anyone at all on third down

Or, possibly, if the defense could have created a few turnovers in the midst of their awfulness

Or if the offense could get out of its own way in ANY first quarter

Or if the special teasers didn't blow some of their assignments and shit the bed

These are a few of the hundreds of possibilities that could have led us to being division champs tonight, before we even stepped on the field

None of which has anything to do with gambling on other teams to mess up. They all have everything to do with the team, as a whole, playing better

To be honest, this division should been Detroits this season. Packers and Bears missing their starting QB's for multiple weeks, Lions losing at home to the Giants, Bucs and Ravens.

It's all Cutler's fault. He can't stop the run or cover WR's worth a shit.

Looking back at the second Minnesota game what keeps sticking in my mind was the way the officials raped us in the fourth quarter. I know bad calls are part of the game and they go both ways but the refs were extraordinarily instrumental in that one. Of course there were at least three other important ways the Bears were at fault for that loss and for all of their losses this year.

We just aren't a good team; certainly not a playoff caliber team even if we win next week. I let myself get excited about our prospects after we knocked off two other bad teams and temporarily forgot we have a rookie hc and the worst defense in the league. It's still been fun to see the changes, next week will be riveting even if it's awful, and next year will be better than this year.

The Schwartz will be gone, as he should be. I'm not sure if Bradford has always been this bad or if he's regressed. Either way they're stuck with him.

I could be absolutely wrong about this, but... had the Cowboys beaten the Pack that would have only knocked out the Packers from the playoffs, but in return opened the possibility for Detroit since, in essence, they could tie with the Bears at 8-8 (if the Bears dropped Philly, and GB) thus they would instead make the playoffs in that scenario. Right now the only reason why Detroit is out is because the winner of the game next week will either be: (Bears) 9-7 or (Pack) 8-7-1, IE one game less in the loss column.

Apologize for injecting this into the thread (especially if I'm wrong), but it's certainly interesting if true.

For me, that Minnesota loss was simply unfathomable.

Also, you could even add the Minnesota tie with Green Bay (though that again is only related to one team and not the Lions).

GB shouldn't even be in the race. Hidden behind the DAL lose is the game where ATL had a 21-10 lead and blew it. And in the tie with the Vikings Patterson dropped a TD in the ENDZONE that would have been a loss too. Gb should be far out of this and CHI and DET should be competing for the division

This is correct.

OP's original post, #4 does not make us division champs (GB losing to Dallas). We would still need another victory somewhere. Scenarios #1-#3, do, however make us division champs as we speak.

Your not wrong. Your right. We'd still have to beat the pack next week.

DAL screwed us (and themselves) twice. Don't forget that they gave up the game against the Lions also.

Dallas gave up 24 points in the 4th and the game winning TD drive with 1:02 on the clock and no time outs

Remember the Redskins game where the D got called for holding on a running play on the Redskins last drive? That was ***. The refs fucked us over in that game.

That's not true. If Dallas puts away GB, GB is 6-8-1, Bears are 8-7, Lions are 7-8. If Bears lose next week and Lions win, Lions would have won the division. The division wouldn't have been over at the start of the game no matter what Greenbay did last week. The only reason it's over for the Lions now is because both GB and Chi have a better record then the Lions and one of those teams is guaranteed to win.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Bears
I bet a team could beat us without ever throwing a pass. **** all the other 'what ifs' That's the big one. What if a team just ran the ball the entire game against us?
