I remember them calling Pokka up for a day at the start of the season and then sending him back down the next day.

Exactly, called him up for the first game to ride pine.

You're right, but they're calling up Gus before back-to-back road games. Feels like a different scenario here.

Pokka was already still in Chicago and that was more of a cap move, he didn't have to move or go up or down because he was up for that last pre-season game still. Similarly it's a cap move like last year they called up Stephen Johns for a day when Sharp was hurt, Johns never left Rockford but his contract was called up to relate to the cap for a day then sent down.

This is more like last year when they called up Dennis Rasmussen during a road trip to the west. Some people were complaining it should be McNeil or someone playing great in the AHL who deserved it to get called up but really it was more fitting because it was highly unlikely the guy called up was anything but an injury check. Gustaffason might get in if Rundblad or perhaps Svedberg looks bad vs Winnipeg, but otherwise I doubt it.

I liked what I saw out of Gus. Would like to see him more, and derpblad to the press box.
