Been the subject of many bad dreams since I was a little kid.
I've never been in one, but I went down to Plainfield two days after that tornado touched down. Witnessing the destruction and smoldering piles of peoples belongings bulldozed to the of end of streets probably didn't help.
I too was in Plainfield a day or two afterwards as a senior on High School on my way to a retreat in Plano.
For me I think I could have been a "chaser" of sorts. I recall one time the sirens going off and my mom (who was right in the midst of the one that wiped out parts of Oak Lawn ran down stairs with my sister. I on the other hand, ran out the side door to the drive way so I could see it. There was a funnel that was lowering from the sky. I was in such awe. What seemed to me an eternity was probably at best a second or two as my mother darted up the stairs, out the door, and whipped me back into the house and into the basement. The tornado never touched down.
That said, I don't go looking for them when the siren go off. I do my best to get my family with shoes in the basement just in case as fast as possible.
