my grandpa had a bunch of bad ass trains and train shit that he was going to give me one day. He dies and my fucking grandma decided she needed some money and sold them and she got hella ripped off. still pissed about that shit.

id guess you probably wouldve had pre-war and post-war lionel trains.. im sure those were probably worth thousands.. upon thousands.

lol..that sucks.

And wow some model railroad fans here...perhaps I should read old posts more often.

My grandpa has a layout that takes up most of his basement. When he dies I'm going to inherit his entire collection.

I have a small HO scale layout of myself that I started in as a freshmen in high school...but then I grew into the social scene and kinda havent really done anything with it since...I probably could now that I dont do all that much during weeknights, but eh..Just lack the motivation at the moment.

what kinda HO stuff do you have?

Since the fine folks at EA sports decided to stop making NHL games for the PC I guess I am going to be going and getting back in to Strat-O-Matic hockey ... more up my alley anyways - as I am a die hard wargamer type ( if really bored- I got a profile up at Boardgamegeek (as well as VideoGameGeek) -if interested in what that means.

I have quite a few UP SD40s and CNW GP38 (or 40..cant remember exactly) I also have a UP C40-8W, AC4400, and I have a Genesis Santa Fe Passenger Set that MR was promoting back in like 2003. (Now I think they promote a different Passenger line every year). I also have some other engines that I cant think of at the moment, but I've started a decent collection.

My hope is that when have a house with a good size basement that I can build a layout on par with the size my grandpa currently has (Not sure what the dimensions of his is exactly though).

Yeah those are blue box except one SD40 is an Broadway Limited Blue Line.

My Grandpa has pretty much all those you have except the CB&Q E-9. He has one Metra coach..but he has the old CN&W paintings for most of those coach cars and the one cab.

Yeah..my table is currently not operational though due to some surgery I did over a year ago that I never finished, but for a brief time it was.

My grandpa does have quite a collection. His layout he built in the late 70's for the most part so he has one of those ancient wiring systems. Most of his locomotives are from the 90's or later. So when I inherit all of it, I will have a costly project of upgrading all his locomotives to DCC.

What DCC system do you have or plan on using?

HO lokies are really for the most part easy to upgrade.. one of the few downsides to me having N scale as my primary.

Right now..I have...the Digitrax Zephyr. I dont know if I'm going to stick with it in the future.

Blue box loco's are fairly easy. I prefer just to plug in the decoder and go from there (newer loco's allow for this), the only ones I have no clue as to how to upgrade are steam loco's...I havent research it, but I will when the time comes.

ahh thats not a bad starter set at all.. Ive got the old Atlas Master system.. Not very user friendly.. hence why i still have some lokies on DC and DCC.. I'm hoping to get either a NCE PowerCab or a ProCab within the next year..

Steamers are best wired with decoders in the tenders... it can be a very odd process though..
