Btw Dilfer's 2000 post season:

3 TDS to 1 INT. And he never completed more than 12 passes. One game he only completed 5 passes. That speaks to how great the Ravens defense was. But Dilfer did not turn the ball over except once in the AFC Championship.

Can ANYONE in their right mind imagine seeing a QB who put up these numbers make the Super Bowl today?

The equivalent would be the Cardinals making the Super Bowl this year.
They had the best defense and a top running game but what put the team over the top was the takeaways and giveaways. They led the league in takeaways and points off of takeaways while also giving up the fewest turnovers and fewest points off giveaways. I think that's a formula that could still work today but you certainly couldn't do it with a QB like Cutler.

Romo borderline hall of famer?

really?

He has the third highest QB rating in the history of the NFL. If he comes through and wins a Super Bowl he's immediately in the conversation.

Here is a list of QBs who have started in the Super Bowl. The players in bold on this list are. Hall of Fame QBs. You'll notice that nearly every single Super Bowl played has a QB that is in the Hall of Fame or a QB who will be considered for the Hall of Fame upon retiring. Non-Hall of Fame QBs starting in the Super Bowl are few and far between, it happens VERY rarely and when it does happen it is typically associated with some of the greatest defenses in the history of the NFL i.e the Seahawks, Bears, Ravens, Bucaneers, Giants in the 1990s etc.

To make it to the Super Bowl you have to have to have something elite happen. Another example the Ravens two years ago obviously not a great defense, but Joe Flacco put together one of the greatest playoff performances in the history of the NFL notching 11 touchdown passes and zero INTs during the playoffs. So something or someone has to do something elite.

It seems most would agree you need a guy that is at least in the top 10 category, unless you have a great defense. So how do you decide how to go about doing that? Once you realize you have a guy that is stuck in that slightly above average category do you just dump him and try and start over? Do you try and build a defense first, or do you keep using valuable picks on quarterbacks every few years until you finally hit one? Do you think teams like Detroit or Cinncy should move on from Stafford and Dalton? I think we would all agree those guys will never be great QBs.

lol at Alex Smith ranked 20th on your list...Ridiculous.

This Year: 18 TDs 6 Ints 93.4 Qbr
Last Year: 23 TDs 7 Ints 89.3 Qbr

Yet you have Cutler ranked 14th and Stafford ranked 15th ahead of him.

And how exactly do you consider Smith a "journeyman QB"?

Back to the question though, with the current team the Bears need at least a "top 10" QB except for a few exceptions.
