Columbia is a good school for journalism. Northwestern is the best though. Countless sports journalists & just regular journalists are grads of N'Western.
Isn't Columbia in NYC? That's the only Columbia I know unless they have franchises now

****-a-major... What do you want to accomplish?

I wish someone would have asked me that when I was looking for a college.

This is true. Good chance you'll change your major by the time you graduate. Shit, I changed my major the day of orientation. Went into Kinesiology (never thought I would end up in it, but somehow I'm now an Kinesiology - Exercise Sciences major  )

I major'd in Finance and consider myself a failure... 32 years old and I make good money, but that is the measure of the least common denominator of society.

Find something that you're interested in...

I'm enrolling in Columbia. They have one of the best communications departments in the US. Tuition is pretty high but from what my brother tells me, he works in advertising with tons of writers, producers etc... Columbia has a great reputation among companies that hire straight out of college prospects.

You finally get a choice on what school you can go to....

I hope you are aware that college requires things like research and decision making. Albeit nowhere near as much as a real world profession, but this the first step to your own success. Research and come back with specific questions from experienced members. Not *David Letterman sarcastic voice* "Uhhh, what should I do?"

I was just trying to see if there were some recommendations that would help me with the research, always good to hear what other people now about certain colleges.

I know, but you should have a list prepared on our desk, ready for approval. :D I'm just pointing out some of the irony.

You still have time to change your career. I mean, you're not 52.

Ball State University, it's not Chicago metro but within three hours. I considered going to the University of Louisville, which is 10 minutes across the river from where I live, but just found that moving away from hope helped me take my courses and school work much more seriously. Ball State has a top-10 journalism program, as well as sports administration, telecommunications and sports medicine. The campus is large, but not enourmous to the point where it's irritating having to walk everywhere. There's roughly 20,000 students, wonderful faculty, and awesome crowds at home games. Huge rival games like Miami Ohio, Western Michigan and Northern Illinois are always awesome. I miss it every single day. Easily the best four years of my life.

Northwestern for sure if you want to do sports journalism. EIU is good for journalism too, but probably too far south for you. It'd be cheaper than NW though.

Look more at what you want to study and then apply to a school that fits your needs. A lot of folks go to colleges because they want to go to xxxx school but then they realize that the school may not have as strong a program as they would like. If a school in the Chicago area doesn't fit the bill for what you want to do for the rest of your life then find a school that does. Just remember that when you apply for a job a degree from a school with a high reputation in the field you work in will go a lot farther than a degree from a school that was convenient fo ryou.
