Honest question. I kow I know, just asking may make me one ,but. How does one fan figure some other fan is a meatball fan? Doesn't matter the sport. I'm new to this board, and sorry if it's been talked about before, but I'm curious.

Hiding behind the popular argument while applying some kind of fan-bias. It is essentially a claim that you are not willing to criticize your own, objectively.

In application, you might be repeating the argument you heard on some sports-radio show/newspaper opinion, and have no real opinion of your own. This would then make it hard for you to critique your team, or player, because you bring nothing more to the table. Instead, you hide behind those popular arguments as a limit, because as a fan, you don't have the brain capacity to add more(hence the insult of calling you a meatball). But also as a fan, you likely don't want to nitpick further, because, after all, it's your own team/players that you would have to bash.

Thank you. That was very concise and articulate. Though sometimes I see people, who spend way too much time scouring every possible source of information, make the claim that the uninformed are meatballs if they don't agree after their extensive research, then they tell the non-believer to get a life. It's ironic. Not at all saying you.

I think meatballs taste great. Especially on sandwiches and spaghetti. Does that make me a meatball fan?

Meatball fans are mostly:

Bears' fans who think Mike Ditka is the greatest coach ever, the 85 Bears are greatest team ever, BEAR WEATHER!!!!1, Ground and pound BEARS FOOTBALL!!!!1, If the Bears go 2-14, but those two wins are against the ****** Packers then its a successful season, etc Just think if your SNL superfan.

Sox fans who are still obsessed with Ozzieball!!!1 Small ball, 2005!!1

Cubs and Sox fans who hate each other for no reason other than the fact that they play on the SOUTHSIDE or the NORTHSIDE, when they should hate the Detroit Pussies, Twinkies, Jndians, Brewers, Cardinals, etc instead.

Hating a team based on location makes no sense. Plenty of legit reasons to not like the Cubs. :)

Agree with the rest of the post whole heartedly.

Very well put. I agree with all ............With the exception, the 85 bears, were one of the best ever. (had to be there to know it). Forget Ozzie and small ball, but 2005 was the first WS for any Chi. fan on this board. (unless you're 100 and have your senses) in which case God bless and keep going.

I think it's a case by case, the general consensus is any fan that blows through and spews nonsense is a meatball. There are a few alarms that set my meter off, the biggest one being "Cubbie." I fucking hate that word and everything it denotes.

DA sets it off, DA BEARS, DA BULLS. Anyone that takes what Hawk says as gospel sets it off. People who claim ownership is cheap (for real cheap ownership is the Miami Marlins) set it off. People who think Chicago is the best location for anyone set it off.

Essentially, anyone that brings and under-researched opinion to the table sets off my meatball alarm because they tend to be the ones that completely derail a thread.

A fan that thinks his opinion is 'expert' because he played tackle at his 2A High School in 1991.

A fan that quotes stuff heard on ESPN or Talk Radio but can't elaborate more than the talking points stated on the show.

A fan that thinks his 'team' on Madden is a realistic possiblity for the Bears.

A fan that just can't grasp the idea that the salary cap means you can't get all the fancy free agents out there.

Like others said, a fan that thinks that what was effective in 1963 or 1985 would work well today, with this group of players.

A fan that likes to toss in two word phrases just to get a rise out of other meatball fans.

no. not even fucking close. its the fans that talk about fire and passion, fans who bring up ditka and the 85 bears in 2013. its almost a hybrid of an "idiot" fan and a "homer"

Were you even a person in 85? That's the fucking problem it's 2013 and the people that remember it want some more.

I can deal with those people a lot easier than I can the constant negative ones though...But I see your point.

Player fans are the worst, like my next door neighbor who still owns 3 Favre jerseys...and was a fan of whatever team had him on the roster.
