I don't think people realize what a challenge this is lol.... I have a Sony Smart TV and a nice wireless setup at my house and I spent almost an entire Saturday trying to figure out a solution which would allow me to stream the content playing on my desktop upstairs in my office through Wifi to my Smart TV connected to the same Wifi downstairs and in the end I unplugged the desktop, sat it on a bar stool next to where the TV is mounted, and connected it via an HDMI cable.
It seemed like such a simple thing, stream your computer screen through your wifi.... and it is, but getting your TV to pick it up is the *****, as far as I can tell there is no built in mechanism to do it easily. There is screen sharing which works off a built in protocol between the TV and certain devices like some phones/tablets. The TV can connect to the Wifi and stream media from any of my computers, but it has to be pre-existing media like a video or audio file, so I tried to stream my desktop content to a file which then I tried to get the TV to play, but that did not work. I believe in the end I found a way to do it with this Tversity program, but streaming high quality video was so taxing on my desktop that it would peg all the CPUs and cause the mofo to completely freeze and the content would stutter and freeze. I could probably do it with more processing power in my desktop but in the end I chose the quick/dirty solution.
That rant aside, I believe Chromecast works via shorter range bluetooth does it not? I think I saw that option but it was not viable since the desktop is upstairs with a wall between it and the TV so the Chromast adapters would be unable to connect to one another or have a shitty signal at best?

That does indeed say WiFi.... I must have looked at some other solutions that used bluetooth cause I know I saw one like that, but I think Chromecast is exactly what I need at my house
