I'll stick by argument earlier.

Right now it's still the Bears. If they get back to winning this fall, they'll stay there.

If not, the Hawks are taking over.

And I think you're missing the biggest debate Keith. Anytime said that the Hawks will NEVER be the top team in the city, and I don't think that's true at all.

Now: Blackhawks
Come football season: Bears
Football will always be more popular than hockey, unless hockey can somehow overtake the NFL if they have a lockout in 2011

i think the hawks are alot closer because of this year but football is king and the bears is a big franchise

and despite the lack of success in recent years...the fanbase is still somewhat large

its only been 4 years since the bears were in the super bowl also

ETA:usc makes a good point no one is talking about the bears because they are still in offseason and the hawks just won a cup

so i guess in this present time...the hawks are the talk of the city

but that will change in a couple of months

Hopefully the Bulls will be the biggest team in the very near future. All depends on how the cards fall & who the FO is able to get.

Overall, yes.

But not in Chicago. Not in a city where people can get impatient with losing teams.

In the 60s, the combination of guys like Hull, Hall, Esposito, and Mikita made the Blackhawks the top team in the city. I've done plenty of reading on this subject and the general consensus, from what I've read, indicated that the Hawks did own this city.

That changed in 1985.

If the Bears keep sliding farther away from the success in 2006, why can't a team that's built for a decade of dominance with a fan-friendly attitude take over the city, when that team was the on top in the past?

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Carolina Hurricanes
  1. Duke Blue Devils
Baseball is on the rocks at the second, and it depends on who the Bulls get in FA.

It's all about the Blackhawks at the second, and football has a much larger fan base in Chicago because a lot of people are just now getting turned onto the idea of hockey. Blackhawks buzz won't be too much come football season just because it's off-season. When they start back up, I think it'll have a lot more buzz.

Really....it's seasonal. Chicago is too big for "one team".

But I think the biggest sign that a team is "on top" is how much they get talked about in the off-season. That's the biggest indicator of a team's popularity. Remember how nuts everyone went when Cutler was acquired? That's why the Bears are #1 one right now. There was a decent buzz when Hossa was signed, but not quite the level of Cutler.

True. If Bears play well, they're on top.

Buuuuuuuut imagine if the Bears go 4-12 this season (Dear God, please no) and the Hawks win the Cup again. Then who's on top?

I'm just trying to get people to recognize that hockey CAN be the top sport in the city, that's all. And not just in June with the team raising the Cup.
