The best beer I've ever had is Grandma's Whiskey Stout from
Blind Tiger Brewery.
The Blind Tiger is a microbrewery and restaurant, here in Topeka about a block and a half from were I live and they have 9 beers on tap at any one time. They are all excellent, full flavored beers without the "soapy" aftertaste you get with a lot of microbrews. They have won multiple gold and silver medals at the Great American Beer Festival with their County Seat Wheat, Maibock and Munich Dunkels Beers.
Grandma's Whiskey stout is aged in a Jack Daniels barrel and is about 12 percent alcohol (24 proof)! Here is a review from
RateABeer.com:
This was damned good! My favorite offering from this brewpub. A rich vanilla oak nose, immediately followed up by some alcoholic heat, and sweet rich bourbon. NIce lingering fruitiness on the palate, with some slick oily chocolate notes, cherrywood and just a bit of roasty coffee. A bit of sweaty dusty sawdust woody bourbon notes, that follows all the way through the entire pint. Like Indra said, this is fullbodied and flavorful without being overwhelming. Wonderful!
A close second would be their Highland Wee Heavy, a dense, rich, and creamy beer, with complexities that draw out smoke and nut, dark fruit and caramel hints. An excellent compliment to one of their thick burgers on a whole wheat bun with seasoned fries.
The best beer I've had from a Major brewery is Hacker Pschorr Hefe Wiesse, poured quickly into a tall glass, with an orange wedge. It's an unfiltered wheat beer with great taste.
The best domestic beer, to me is Icehouse, although MGD will do in a pinch.
