Granted I haven't watched a ton of his games, but after watching the purdue msu game today I have a few questions. What are his pros and cons? It doesn't look like he has a huge arm, he does look like he makes good decisions and has decent completion numbers . Can he make it as a qb in the nfl?

He looks like a NFL QB, it's amazing how often that leads to 1st round grades.

He didn't have a great game. that pair of RBs that MSU have are pretty good, though.

Right now my opinion of Cook is pretty simple, he does a lot of things very well but is not exceptional at any one thing. Cook doesn't have much of an opportunity to make the wow plays those spectacular plays that stand out because their focus is so much on running the football and playing great defense.

The questions about Cook are whether or not you can put the game on his shoulders and ask him to win the game.

Cook reminds me of Tom Brady in college, STRICTLY in college, in that he does nothing spectacular and is overall just efficient and gets the job done in the last spectacular way possible. Brady was even in danger of losing his job to Drew Henson who was the top of the line five-star QB recruit, the hot shot number one type QB prospect in the country.

Brady's senior year consisted of 2,217 yards passing 16 TDs and 6 INTS. Not the least bit spectacular not even remotely something a fan on this board would consider.

I may be wrong but I believe Brady and Henson split time their senior year and Henson was drafted a round or two before Brady.

I was pretty high on cook after watching his bowl game from a couple years ago and a game here and there since. He doesnt have the soundest mechanics or the best accuracy but he got it done and seemed to simply have that "it" factor about him. but then I went back and watched his game against baylor last year, and despite Mich State winning that game he made some terrible, terrible throws. and Im simply done with QBs that make boneheaded decisions.

and then on top of that, I discovered goff.

He understands the mental part of the NFL game already while working out of a pro system in college. He knows how to look off a DB and he makes good decisions. Can truly manage a game. He goes through progressions really well, good mechanics through play action and bootlegs and his overall throwing mechanics are good.

I don't see a problem with his arm strength. I think it's good enough to make all the throws. Is it great? No but I think it's good enough to get the job done. He is very accurate on those short-intermediate throws. He has also shown up in the big games -

2015 -
Cook vs Oregon - 20/32, 192 yards, 2-1 TD-INT - WIN

2014 -
Cook vs Ohio State - 25/45, 358 yards, 2-0 - LOSS
Cook vs Oregon - 29/47, 343 yards, 2-2 - LOSS
Cook vs Baylor (Cotton Bowl) - 24/42, 314 yards, 2-2 - WIN

2013 -
Cook vs Ohio State - 24/40, 304 yards, 3-1 - WIN
Cook vs Stanford (Rose Bowl)- 22/36, 332 yards, 2-1 - WIN

Cook is going to be an above-average starting quarterback in the NFL, not a star. I think early to mid second round is a good range for him to go, definitely not top 15. He reminds me of Andy Dalton.

Somewhere between a better version of Andy Dalton, lesser version of Matt Ryan, and Carson Palmer without the cannon is his likely outcome IMO. He has that level of accuracy, and can read the field with anyone. But he gets in trouble when he thinks his arm is better than it is. He'll try to squeeze the ball into tight spaces and force the ball when he shouldn't. Stands in the pocket in face of edge pressure, but really doesn't like pressure from the inside. He isn't a guy that's going to put the team on his shoulders and lead them to 4th quarter comeback wins consistently. But he's more than just a game manager. He will likely go as the talent around him goes, ala Matt Ryan. If the Bears draft him, he'll be fine if Jeffery proves to be a true #1, White proves worthy of the #7 pick, and they find a strong blindside protector.

If he does truly last to the early 2nd round, I'd have no problem drafting him early 2. Hell, I'd trade back into the 1st if the Bears got a guy like Ronnie Stanley in the 1st. I do think you can justify taking him in the teens though, but the Bears probably won't be good enough for that to be an option. But the only chance he has to go in the 2nd is if he doesn't wow scouts and guys like Goff, Hackenberg, and probably even Cardale Jones go ahead of him.
