The absolute worst part of your's fathers death is the "new knowledge" that you're the next in line to die.
Crying out in rage against the dying of the light is perfectly natural, and your father's father probably did the same when his father died, and for exactly the same reason.
The only thing in the world worse than getting older is "to not get older anymore."
