Not exactly. His numbers were never better from 1987-1990 and he won none of those years. He also lost in 1995 to Orlando and he was still the best player in the league at that point despite being not in the best basketball shape.

Uhh no he wasn't.

I'm not really worried about which player could have stopped the GOAT, because they wouldn't have.

Dwight Howard and Wilt Chamberlain were both two of the most athletic players in NBA history. Wilt Chamberlain was even longer in his wingspan and even taller. Both of them were stoppers at the rim and both of them were rebounding juggernauts.

The biggest difference between Dwight and Wilt was that Wilt was better at practically everything.

Jordan was still Jordan even though some of his stamina wasn't there yet. Olajuwon was an amazing player and the gap was certainly closed off that season but Jordan simply didn't have the help Hakeem did. There was no true PF on the Bulls that season.

What does that have to do with Jordan being better or not being better than Hakeem?

Good to see Rami is getting in his preaseason work of being clueless.

Looking for another big season from ya!

If you want to say Jordan and Olajuwon were the best players in the NBA in 1995, that is more than fair. Both of them were on the same level.

That doesn't answer the question. And they obviously both weren't "on the same level". If "Jordan was still Jordan" as you say he would have been in basketball shape. He wasn't.Kind of tough to be the best player in the league when you're not in shape for the sport itself. Obviously the talent was still there but one of Jordan's most amazing attributes was his stamina/conditioning/strength. That wasn't there in 1995. He wasn't the best player in the NBA when he came back.

This is ridiculous

Not everybody was as naturally gifted as Jordan was. Hakeem was the only one who had a case in 1995 as being better.

Boris Diaw. His versatility and ability to play any position on the floor would've created bad match-up problems for Jordan. I don't know how Jordan would've been able to contain him.

Also Andrei Kirilenko because he's more versatile than Lebron James.

And Thabo Sefolosha. Not sure if Jordan could handle a player who played SG on offense and PF on defense.

Are we referencing players we think would've given Jordan "a run for his money"? If so, the only two in this current era who would've even had a 0.0001% chance of supplanting Jordan's all around game are Kobe and LeBron. Jury is still out on Durant, IMO. Give him about two more seasons, his defense could take another two steps forward.

As for players in previous generations? Meh.... maybe Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor or George Gervin. The problem is, none of these players had the defensive chops that Jordan did. I'd be more intrigued to see how they'd fair in one-on-one matchups.

I think that any of those players could have potentially given Jordan more problems than any other single player did in the 90's. I think would fear Chamberlain the most. This was a big man with incredible stamina and athleticism. He once averaged over 48 minutes per-game in a season. That is sickening. He was a track star and hurdler with Olympic potential. And his power was also something to behold. This was a guy who was deceptively strong. I would fear him more so than I would any other player.

Diaw is obvz the goat anyway. This thread is about players besides BD3 who could've stood up to Jordan in his era.

Why would the 7'1'' Wilt be guarding the 6'6'' Jordan for 48 minutes? I thought we were comparing twos and threes to Jordan, since that's the position he played?

Which part of the topic title/OP made you believe that?
