And now I'm afraid I may be even more confused. I've read somewhere that waffles may be fattening. Is it the whole grains in them that give them a high fat content? Or is it the syrup?

I'm not a doctor, personal trainer or nutritionist so I don't know for sure but my guess would be waffles would be fattening as a result from some other ingredient in them. Putting syrup on waffles definitely makes them more fattening.

what percentage of syrup, let's say maple syrup, is fat?

I want to guess that the fatty ingredience in waffles is flour or baking powder but my heart says it's the fat ingredience..maybe the butter or oils?

I am no nutritionist myself. So I could be wrong.

And Maple Syrup has very low fat..very very low. I am Canadian so I do know this. Canadians > Nutritionists.

Sperm is high in protein...just incase anyone was wondering. Problem is you gotta eat a lot of it....which I do

was that out loud?

Risk for heart disease is based on multiple risk factors. Some can be modified (HTN, diabetes, lipids, tobacco use, sedentary lifestyle, BMI) others can't (age, gender, family history/genetics). There is plenty of research indicating the role of inflammation in heart disease.

It doesn't have to be this example... just one like it.

For example, I've been for some reason reading about the link between heart disease and high cholesterol. It has long been believed that high cholesterol is a big risk factor for heart disease. Go to any major health site or ask your doctor and they will tell you that's the case. Within the last few years, other doctors and scientists have questioned this belief and say there is no proof of this claim. They have even done their own studies showing that high cholesterol isn't a risk factor for heart disease. In fact, some of them say that LOW cholesterol can actually increase your chances of a heart attack as you get older. These doctors blame inflammation and refined carbs for heart disease... not fat.

What the general public is left with is two sides with equal credentials saying two completely different things.

So whether you use this example or another one, how do you decide which side is right?
I've always heard that fat is good for you. My bet would be it's those simple carbs that do you in.
