Wow! Who are those 19%?

I'd rather live almost anywhere else in the country besides here.

I preferred Washington to Oregon, but I love that marine west cost climate that causes suicide in californians.

Just curious, what's stopping you? I'm moving from a 46 to a 65. I think that's a good choice. The 46 goes to show that even most Floridians know what kind of joke this state is, but many will stay just because of coastline.

Employment, or I should say the right kind of employment. I have applied in other states, but my wife likes being close to family. I, on the other hand, couldn't give two shits how far away my family was from me.

If I could find a good job in a different state I would. I haven't yet. I don't have much to offer, as I didn't go to kowledge, but I like to learn by doing. Pac NW would be my first choice, if I could choose. I would want to check out Colorado and that area New Hampshire is interesting too. I don't like hot and humid, so the south is out. I maybe might could do southwest, but it would take some convincing.

I know a couple that split apart because of that; he wanted to be as far away from his family as possible, and she wanted to be close to her's. unfortunately their families lived in the same town.

I'm with you though, I could care less how far or how near as long as I can keep them tat arm's distance if necessary. I got lucky; my wife had no qualms about leaving her family across 2 continents and an ocean.

Jako, from what I gather you are a hard worker. There are many jobs in the oil/natural gas that don't necessarily involve working at the rigs, and from what I hear most of them are paying pretty well for a starting wage. It definitely is worth checking into, especially if you are willing to move to where the jobs are.

That's part of it here too. But it's also because my wife's whole family is here and she's really close to her Mom (who is getting pretty old). No family for me within 1000 miles for the last 25 years so I'm completely mobile and ready to go.

Edit: Underwater on the house too.

People like to razz on Texas and red necks in general, but once they move here they tend to stay. Count me as one of those people.

Summers are unbearably hot down in the Lonestar state ? Yes?

No state income tax.

And as R. Lee Ermy once said in the movie Platoon "only 2 things come from Texas, steers and qxxxrs which one are you"

The one thing that would drive me crazy is all of the Dallas Cowboy, Jerry Jones stuff you would be hard pressed to not see.

Actually the Dallas Cowboys stuff is funny. They've sucked for 10+ years and it's largely Jerry's fault. He's went from hero to goat pretty damn quick.

And yes it's hot. But no worse than say So Cal, Arizona, Nevada or Florida. It's worth it for perfect weather the rest of the year more often than not.

Jerry thinks he is a capable football scout and GM. Step aside and let the football people do their job, pompous ass.

I have. I had a cousin that drove a pipe truck to various site in the Bakken. First year was 60k. He was making 6 figures when he went back to his own company in Utah. He also had an apartment, which in the oil fields up there, is impressive. Housing is hard to come by.

Some stories I have heard regarding housing is that many live 'on site' in housing while they are working, then they go 'home' for the time they are off. Might be a good way to bank some money if you can handle that type situation.

Yeah, that is shadey at best. The stories I have come across state you live there for a few months, then the company boots you. People living in their cars, "man-camps", and other stories make me weary.
