With the owners taking a hard lined stance on economic issues, insisting that they flip the entire revenue model on its head, there stands a good chance the NBA will be without basketball this year. If that’s the case, who are the big losers?

Miami Heat.

Not the heat, they have a window of at least four more years.

The Lakers, Spurs, Mavericks and Celtics would be the big losers. They all have a window of 2 years max. All of their key players (except dirk) are in a steep decline. A lost year, the age, rust would finish them imo.

but, those same 4 teams would be the biggest winners of a shortened season. Less wear/tear on the legs...they never play hard in the reg season anyway.

The topic was lost not shortened season. Ie if the 2011-2012 season never happens and they start up in 2012-2013.

I'd go with the Celtics and Spurs. Two aging teams that don't really have a young player who can fix things in the future.

true..but even with fresh legs...player just lose productivity as they age(especially in the mid 30s)...because they decline athletically....one more year might bring fresh legs..but another year age wise does more damage than fresh legs does healing

The Lakers, Celtics, and especially Spurs windows are already closed in my opinion.

Teams that would be hurt are those with the most veterans. Celtics, Spurs, Lakers all come to mind. Teams that were up-and-comers this season that had momentum in the playoffs like the Grizzlies and Thunder and maybe even the Hawks.

I have to go younger teams here like the Bulls, Grizzlies and Thunder. These teams still need constant coaching and structure to keep improving. I think it helps a team like the Celtics in the short run.

I don't see how you can say that. They are all still contenders and all three finished top 3 in their conferences. If they are healthy at playoff time, they are just as much contenders as anyone else. They just need to pace themselves during the regular season.

I say every team will be effected in the same way because veteran teams have but so many milles left on their legs and long layoffs will have them rested, but it will also make their transition to game speed alot longer.

Now the younger teams will lose the continuity with their teams and coaching staff because some of the younger players haven't developed habits in this point of their careers to prepare themselves physically and mentally away from their teams and coaching staffs.

Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce are all a shell of what they all used to be. Unless they make some dramatic roster changes, those teams are done in terms of winning titles.

I agree with Duncan, Pierce and Garnett. But Kobe is not a "shell" of his former self. Kobe is like Jordan. He'll be one of the best in the game until he retires.

I don't think the Bulls would be hurt the most and since they're the only team I care about, I'll comment on them. I'd hate to see the growth of this team put on hold for a year, especially being so young like a poster above said. Guys will be another year older etc.
