I agree with Duncan, Pierce and Garnett. But Kobe is not a "shell" of his former self. Kobe is like Jordan. He'll be one of the best in the game until he retires.

It is possible to be one of the best in the game and still be a shell of your former self. Kobe used to be the best player in the NBA for a couple of seasons. He's still in the top 5 or 10... but he cannot get to the basket at will anymore. And he's not an elite back-court defender anymore.

The Lakers also have Derek Fisher and Ron "Mecca World Peace" Artest as his fellow starting perimeter players... those players are a shell of what they used to be, too.

Kobe is definitely on the downside of his career...

Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce are all a shell of what they all used to be. Unless they make some dramatic roster changes, those teams are done in terms of winning titles.

They are still great players and are capable of showing up in the playoffs. They are shells but still HOF.

its a really interesting transition point in the nba when you have younger teams(Thunder,Bulls,Miami(ehh sorta) almost there but it seems they are lacking and then you have the older teams that dominated much of the 2000s(Spurs,Lakers,Celtics,Mavs) pretty much at the end of their peaks...alot of the great players that were drafted in the late 90s that pretty much defined the 2000s(Ray allen,Pierce,Duncan,Kobe,Garnett,Dirk(although he's kickin ass right now),Vince Carter,Antawn Jamison,Chauncey Billups,Steve Nash,Jason Kidd, etc.) are really heading out the door and now we're seeing alot of the rising players in the early 2000s(Amare,Anthony,Wade,Lebron,CP3,Deron Williams) in their primes and a slew of young talent(alot of it from the 07 high school class that was unreal...Love,Griffin,Rose,Gordon,Mayo,and then Durant from 06)..etc.etc.
