The key to tonight's game, and perhaps the series, will be Sox hitter discipline.
Jimenez's biggest problem this year is that he struggles to go five because of excessive pitch counts. This can place a pretty big strain on a very good bullpen even though yesterday was an off day.. Wlth Tomlin, basically a six inning pitcher, pitching tomorrow night making Jimenez work tonight helps set up Thursday. More importantly the Tribe plays Texas over the weekend -- and you know the Tribe pen will be taxed -- so the Sox could face a very tired Tribe pen for Monday's double header.
On the other hand, the Sox are one of the least disciplined teams in the AL. The Sox are number 1st in strikeout ratio and 10th in walk ratio.
I'm also guessing that tonight's weather conditions will mean the ball won't carry well. If so, this will hurt the Sox more than the Tribe. The Tribe ranks 13th in the AL in homers but that is misleadingly high since they have not hit one in their last 11 games.
I'm cautiously optimistic that the Tribe wins tonight. Hey, what do you expect, I'm a Tribe fan.:dunno:
