If Jackson is flipped it means Hudson and another high-level Sox prospect have essentially been shipped off for Adam Dunn, which fills one spot in the lineup yet creates another hole in a starting rotation that is already less Jake Peavy and is starting to see Freddy Garcia get hit a ton. That's questionable at best.

And if the Sox are unable to to unload Jackson, that means the team traded away a salary-controlled pitching prospect for a guy that has had one dubiously solid season and is due more than $8 million next season. That's bad.

It's really not that bad, not that good either. Hudson more than likely isn't going to pitch any better than Jackson and I'm a lot more comfortable with Jackson down the stretch this year over Hudson, and he has a bit of playoff experience too. Cooper likes him and he could fix him up just like he did with Thornton.

Yeah, Cooper could fix him, but right now all we have to go off of is what Jackson has done recently and for his career, and going by that trading a salary-controlled prospect for an older, high-salaried player in Jackson is just not a smart move, especially if the Sox can't flip him and are stuck with Jackson for the rest of this season (i.e. a close divisional race) and next.

Well that's all speculation at this point. Going off of the numbers (which are real and not speculative), Jackson is a sub-par pitcher making too much money. He isn't very good at controlling the things a pitcher has direct control of on the mound (K/BB rate, HR rate, etc), and has given no indication that he is improving in those areas.

Coop has been very good at fixing problems on pitchers that have a lot of talent but can't translate it to the field. Maybe Jackson will be his next reclamation project?

Gavin Floyd was a big project from Philly, Coop can fix EJ if EJ is willing to work. He fixed Matt Thornton with ONE SESSION!

I don't see how we got hosed at all. I think this is going to be a very good move both for this season and beyond. What we gave up are kids that don't have this guys skill level nor passion. From what I have read about this kid his enthusiasm is going to be contagious and should make the guys relax and have some fun, not that they aren't having any fun now kickin ass and taking names.
