I'm in my fourth decade as well.
Engel did start batting better, his second half numbers show that and that is what you want to see out of a player that needs to earn more playing time. He did exactly that.
Again, batting barely better than a guy that should be sent to AAA isn't impressive.
Yes second half numbers is enough of a trend. And right now he's better than Jay. It's a mistake.
No, no, and no. Second half numbers against September call ups is not a good enough trend, especially when the previous year he hit .169. He's not better than Jay, and it's most definitely not a mistake.
I hope things go well for Jay, but well for Jay is at best below average.
No he's not, his lifetime average, OBP, and OPS suggest otherwise. You're delusional if you think that.
Using k's as your argument instead of standard things like slash lines kinda says it all.
Brett the kid had 18 walks on the year in 463 PA's. That's pathetic. Caught stealing 5 out of 11 times in the second half, pathetic. His standard slash lines are still bad no matter how you look at em.
As for Alonso, you have WAY too much faith in Palka. First off, he makes Schwarber look like a GG in the Outfield. Secondly whose to say that Palka can repeat? It's never been part of his pedigree. I'd love to be wrong, but getting Alonso does several things. Adds a guy at first, adds a nice bat for the lineup, helps relieve pressure off of Abreu, comes cheap and might land us Machado. Yes, the move for Alonso >>>>>>>>> Jay
I don't really have that much faith in Palka, I was hoping he'd be our DH. I don't really understand the Alonso move especially within the division for either team. Not sure if Palka can repeat, but I saw a lot of growth throughout the season, and teams started walking him more once they realized his capability of hitting HR's. That said I'd still like his OBP to jump higher along with hitting some more doubles. 15 doubles ain't gonna cut it to go along with 153 K's.
The whole adding pressure off of Abreu's going to be done by Jimenez and hopefully Machado. Moncada better be improved this year as well.
