Love all this historical discussion today with Robinson and Stockton. This made me think, if I was to rate the top three players of all time (including current), at each position who would I choose:

CENTER
1) Wilt Chamberlin
2) Shaquille O'Neal
3) KAREEM ABDUL JABBAR - (YEA I SAID IT!!!, better than Rusell)

POWER FORWARD
1) Tim Duncan
2) Larry Bird
3) Karl Malone

SMALL FORWARD
1) LeBron James
2) Elgin Baylor
3) Julius Erving

SHOOTING GUARD
1) Michael Jordan
2) Dwayne Wade - Won a title as the best player on a shitty team. If he is healthy for the remainder of his career, I think he will have a better overall career than Kobe, about 90% as good as MJ.
3) Kobe Bryant

POINT GUARD
1) Magic Johnson
2) Oscar Robinson
3) Jerry West - If Chris Paul keeps up what he is doing, I truly think he can become #3

Oh, so you think it's a groundbreaking thing to say Kareem was better than Russell?

Also, when did Larry play the power forward spot?

Jerry West a playmaker...

Damn.

Go write "Riker Rules".

and no, there's no debate if Russell is better than Kareem, because he's not even close. That's one.

Two, Larry never played the PF spot. Three Jerry West is one of the NBA's most renown shooting guards.

So what's he doing on a playmaking spot is beyond me.

All the positions were taken from Basketball Reference.com. As we all know as bball fans, many players play many positions in their careers. Instead of being a bitter little bitch, why don't you make a list yourself.

Basketball reference is not some god given holy scripture of basketball. So, not everything on that site is 100% right.

OK, my list...

C
Hakeem
Shaq
Kareem

PF
Malone
Duncan
Barkley

SF
Pippen
Bird
Wilkins

SG
Jordan
Iverson
Drexler

PG
Stockton
Magic
K. Johnson

I watched many games from all of these guys back in the day so...they would make MY dream team.

I believe the thread title had the "YOUR" somewhere in it.

And two - so, let me get this straight. Majority of people here constantly knocked on Gordon, and kept saying how Jerk Hinrich is better than him and all that hoopla.

And now, you're going to tell me that Iverson wasn't one of the best shooting guards that ever played? I'm talking about 76ers Iverson, Iverson that carried those SCHMUCKS to Finals in 2001 and was the ONLY one who defeated the Lakers in their run to the championship.

I'm talking that Iverson, Iverson who played every night 46 minutes, got banged up by everyone, but still found a way to drag that miserable bunch through the playoffs.

Anyway, that's MY dream team...so there.

There is a reason that no one want AI today. He hasn't shown that he could play within a team concept. I hope he does spring back and do that but even without that I would say Kobe and Wade's defense put them over AI.

Also Hakeem is a must have on that list, he just had horrible teams.

Riker's list is pretty spot on to my list. SF would be LeBron, Bird, then Pip. And Kobe would be #2 on SG followed by Jerry West at #3. Other than that, it's like he lifted the list straight from my mind.

And yes Mark, AI was a 2 guard. Remember who was the starting PG on those AI Sixers teams, Eric Snow, that's who. AI has played the majority of his career at the 2. And honestly Mark, your list seems pretty ridiculous to me too. Bird was not a PF, Erving was a SG, & West was never a PG, he was one of the greatest 2's of all time. And basketball-reference doesn't list specific positions, it's just guard, forward, or center. As Fred would say, I think you need to put the bong down Mark.

Hakeem (best and most complete center ever in my opinion)
Kareem (Sky Hook to the rescue!!!)
Shaq (probably the most physically dominant player ever)
Honorable Mention: Wilt the Stilt

PF

JOAKIM!!! (hey, it's my team isn't it :D plus it kicks timmy d off the list, which=good)
Karl Malone
Rodman (no doubt the best rebounder ever)
Honorable Mention: Horace Grant

SF

LeBron (most dominant SF ever)
Pippen (most complete SF ever)
Dr J (most exciting player, no matter what position he played)

SG

His Airness (weren't expecting that, were you :p)
D-Wade (heat would win <5 games without him.
Kobe (nice fadeaway)

PG

Magic (greatest PG ever)
Oscar (most complete PG ever)
Stockton/Nash (some of the greatest playmakers ever)

Solid list, the only change I would make is probably Oscar instead of Stockton.
