I don't even think that is too good. Also, they like him for his D... which completely suck now or is not good. He was pathetic last year.
Coming from someone who caught throughout high school, he's still a fantastic defensive catcher. He's better than Soto. Hell, he's on about the same level as Yadier Molina. He does everything to keep balls in the dirt in front of him and I don't have the stats/ proof for this, but I think he's better at throwing out base stealers than Soto is.
With that being said, Hill can't hit. Which as long as you're in the NL is a pretty significant aspect of the game. If he could even draw a few more walks, I'd be open to keeping him as the back up. But since the backup catcher starts about 40 games a year, simply because the starter needs a rest every now and then, that's 40 games a year that we can just subtract one or two base runners that Soto would equate to.
Al Yellon, the guy who writes the BleedCubbieBlue blog, look him up, he's a great writer, mentioned in one of his last articles that the Cubs should thank him for his dedication, release him, and then offer him a coaching job, which I think is a fantastic idea. He's obviously not going to be a hitting coach, but would be able to help Castillo and Ramirez, I'm sure.
